Fate Of The Old Republic will launch before 2030, says Lead

Just one night after setting the collective internet on fire with the reveal of a new Star Wars title, one set in The Old Republic era and helmed by none other than the RPG legend himself, Casey Hudson, the protagonist is helping to put out a separate fire, one related to its supposed release window.

On Twitter, Hudson made it very clear that Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, or FOTOR as all the cool kids call it, will be released before 2030, a window many used in response to the game's sudden announcement.

I'm not getting any younger!

His response appears to be aimed at veteran gaming journalist Jason Schreier, who in a separate post on Bluesky noted how the studio's recent lineup has him optimistically guessing that FOTOR could arrive in 2030.

Last night's biggest surprise was Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, helmed by Casey Hudson, who directed KOTOR (and Anthem). Exciting news for a lot of people… but Lucasfilm says the studio was founded this year, which means 2030 is an *optimistic* guess. Maybe it will be a PlayStation 7 game — Jason Schreier (@jasonschreier.bsky.social) 2025-12-12T16:30:44.271Z

As Schreier further noted in the responses to his post, Wonder Woman was also a game that had a huge spot at The Game Awards, only to eventually be canceled. Others also noted the many games that debut with high-budget movies only to never see the light of day.

Star Wars Outlaws Nintendo Switch 2 Review

Don't be afraid to play Star Wars Outlaws on Nintendo Switch 2

Ubisoft Red Lynx has produced an exceptional version of Star Wars Outlaws for Nintendo Switch 2.

And if there's one thing Star Wars fans, especially Star Wars video game fans, are aware of, it's that sometimes things can look and sound too good to be true.

Luck hasn't been on Star Wars' side either, so don't blame people for losing hope

Hudson's statement is a pretty bold statement, especially when you consider that the team making the game, Arcanaut Studios, is only a handful of months old. GameDev, as we are all well aware, is quite a laborious process that can be extremely costly and have many twists and turns.

With that in mind, 2030 feels especially generous given that we're already approaching 2026, leaving only a small window of time for a high-budget game that will no doubt have a lot of IP hoops to go through before release.

I can't be the only one who thinks about 1313 every now and then. As a Star Wars fan, it hurts so much to think about what could have been.

Fortune hasn't been on Star Wars' side in recent years either, with the likes of 1313 and a separate Mandalorian-based first-person shooter all cancelled, as well as the disappearance of news for the Star Wars: Eclipse and the Knights of the Old Republic remake.

Nothing, Hudson seems to have a lot of faith in his team and their ability to deliver. Time will ultimately tell if this is the case. We hope it is, so that it can buck the trend of poorly-fated Star Wars titles.
