What was originally a celebration that Fallout 4, along with The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, would be joining the Nintendo Switch 2 library, announced during Thursday's Nintendo Partner Showcase, has quickly turned into some displeasure.
Specifically, Switch 2 owners aren't convinced that Fallout 4 Anniversary Edition is being sold as a full-price $60 game on the Nintendo eShop, some 10 years after the title was originally released on the last-gen hardware in 2015.
Taking to Reddit, gamers shared their displeasure, especially in light of the fact that the base version of Fallout 4 can currently be purchased for $4.99 on Steam, and will almost certainly run better on PC to boot.
“WTF not even Oblivion Remastered was 60 when it came out last year,” one user wrote in response.
They're correct, Oblivion Remastered was $49.99 at launch and has been on sale regularly for the next year or so since its shadow drop.
“Don't double dip on this one from PC,” wrote another. “At $40 new it would have been tempting. Will now wish list for a sub $20 sale eventually.”
That seems to be the prevailing sentiment – wait for a big enough discount before buying. The 60GB requirement is also a pretty gnarly patch to boot.
“The size is any. The price is a disgrace,” wrote one disgruntled player.
For what it's worth, this is the “Anniversary Edition” of Fallout 4, which has the base game, the six DLC packs, plus Creation Club items. It's the more premium edition of Fallout 4. Still, the Anniversary Edition still costs $29.99 on Steam, which makes the debut price a bit staggering, all things considered.
It doesn't help that the early returns of Fallout 4 are pretty rough visuals.
“It's extremely expensive for a 10 year old crafting game that's barely worth any money,” wrote another.
Nintendo fans have had a tough time lately with prices
Word of Fallout 4's $60 price tag comes on the heels of fans already voicing their displeasure that Super Mario Bros. Wonder's upgrade pack for the Switch 2 would cost $19.99, which would cover some serious upgrades, including improved visuals and framerates.
“$30 CAD for many of these Switch 2 upgrades is pretty insane, considering things like Ghost of Tsushima and Last of Us Part 2 on PS5 were about half that price for roughly the same type of content, like expanded story or new modes,” wrote one user at the time in response to Nintendo's pricing strategy.
That's apparently the price you pay for being a Nintendo gamer, I guess.
