One of the best parts about a new game reveal is all the hidden details that people start finding afterwards, or the information shared right after the massive trailer, and Fable is no exception to that.
Ever since its full reveal during Thursday's Xbox Developer Direct, fans have been pouring over every minute, and Playground Games, for its part, has shared plenty of information about what to expect when the game releases later this fall.
That said, not all discoveries are bound to be fun, and in this case, fans have discovered that the game on Steam is tagged as a single-player experience. In other words, don't expect a basic co-op experience like in Fable 2 or a souped-up version that was in Fable 3.
Fable will be about finding joy in the everyday
I can't wait to live a boring, boring life in Playground Games' Fable.
“As someone who only plays solo, I like that now, achievements won't force you to play multiplayer to get them all,” wrote a fan of the change in response.
Meanwhile, there were others who anticipated something along the lines of Fable 3's chaotic experience.
“I'm not sure why so many are apparently excited about this? If it had co-op it wouldn't take away from the single player experience,” wrote another.
Remember, the potential lack of co-op play is just one of several things from the original set of Fable titles that won't be returning when this revival eventually drops.
The new Fable aims to be the Fable you love but without those core elements
That's because beyond co-op play, it was similarly revealed by Playground themselves that the popular dog mechanic will not be present in any way, shape or form. It's apparently the one change that other developers couldn't get around.
“There are a few people on the team who enjoyed me asking this question because I removed it a while ago. You know what? For development reasons, right?” Ralph Fulton, general manager at Playground said. “I don't need to go into more detail than that, except to say that there are a large number of people in the team who have yet to forgive me for that decision.”
And if that wasn't enough, don't expect any character change in the new Fable either, as the new system moves away from “objective good and evil” considerations. Instead, players can have multiple reputations, something that would be ruined if you happened to be a horned creature that screamed evil.
Understandably, some hardcore fans are upset in the wake of all these developments. Credit where credit is due, for their part, Playground is not bent on these things and their removal either.
