Fable fans are worried that the Demon Doors might not return in the upcoming reboot. Demon Doors were featured in all three previous mainlines Fable game, but Playground Games has yet to confirm whether they will return in the reboot. While nothing is set in stone right now, fans are debating whether they want to see them appear again.
The long awaited Fable reboot finally resurfaced at the latest Xbox Developer Direct. This was a big glimpse into what gamers can expect to see from Playground Games' revival of the series, which was previously developed by Lionhead Studios. With Playground Games previously worked on Forza Horizon series, Fable is a big change of pace for the studio, but reception to the films we've seen so far has been largely positive. On the surface, it seems to have the same charm that elevated the original Fable the trilogy of other RPGs of its time. In addition to the new gameplay information, the Xbox Developer Direct showcase also confirmed it Fable coming to PlayStation 5 day one, another huge Xbox console-exclusive franchise making the jump to Sony's platform.
Fable has put its biggest controversy to rest, but it shouldn't have been a problem in the first place
Playground Games' long-awaited Fable reboot just brought down one of the most enduring, absurd, nonsensical gaming controversies of recent years.
Will there be demon doors in the fable reboot?
A Reddit thread started by user gex109 pointed that out Fables iconic Demon Doors have yet to appear in promotional material for the reboot, indicating that they may not be present in the game. “I hope they keep them in the new fable,” gex109 said. One user claimed that it would be “outrageous” if they don't appear, saying that they assume they haven't bothered showing the Demon Doors “since they're so obviously going to be in the game.” The same user described Demon Doors as “so quintessentially and uniquely Fable that they had to appear,” and that was the general sentiment of the entire thread.
So far, it seems like Playground Games understands what it's doing Fable so special, but the reboot still plans to differ from its predecessors in some big ways. For example, it was revealed recently Fables morality-based character appearances will not appear in the reboot, nor will the co-op game or dog companion. A main line Fable games without these features would previously be pretty unthinkable, but it's a sign that the developer isn't afraid to take risks to make what it believes is a better game with the reboot. With this in mind, it's certainly possible that Demon Doors might not feature in the reboot. Of course, nothing is confirmed right now, and Playground Games might just be keeping them under wraps for the full release. But it's important not to assume one or the other, given the game's track record so far.
The Fable reboot has now been locked into a fall 2026 release window on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, though no exact date has been given at this time. A Switch 2 version of Fable is also reportedly under consideration, which would mark the first time the series has appeared on a Nintendo platform. Players can expect marketing for the game to ramp up in the coming months as the Fall 2026 release window approaches. When the game releases, it will have been almost 16 years since the last main title in the series, and hopefully the wait has been worth it.
