If you happened to have played the Ecco the Dolphin games back in the day… then good news! You are not alone. I played through both the 1992 original and its 1994 sequel, Ecco: The Tides of Time. I was barely a blip of a human being. I played them a few years later. And, to be honest, I actually pretty much sucked at them as a kid, but they were fun as hell. Never checked out Ecco Jr. or Defenders of the Future, but hey.
Anyway, promising news today for all my fellow dolphin video game enthusiasts, so let's get on with it.
“Several,” Huh?
Did you expect a website title like eccothedolphin.com to exist, let alone be official, in 2026? Neither do I. How about an official Discord server? Something is happening, the Ecco family, and we even have the receipts.
As spotted by Gematsu, developer A&R Atelier – which, crucially, includes series creator Ed Annunziata in the role of Chief Creative Officer – has made quite a splash with an official statement. We know remasters are coming, but there's a third Ecco in the works too. And now we know just how serious A&R Atelier really is about all this, with the sudden internet presence and all.
“It's been years in the making and we're honored to bring back Ecco. Ecco has always been more than a game about a dolphin – he's a bridge between worlds.” -Ed Annunziata, A&R Atelier
“Several new products and games” are in the works, according to the developers, and while “products” can mean a variety of things, “games” is self-explanatory. And quite hype-inclusive, if I do say so myself. We'll be checking the new site regularly for fresh scoops, so stay tuned to TheGamer for all things Ecco the Dolphin. Which is certainly not a sentence I ever expected to be able to write.
