A member of The Sims 4s community team has just addressed the recent influx of leaks and rumors surrounding the ongoing development of The Sims 4 and the future of it more broadly Sims franchise, claims that “misinformation” has been circulating, and confirms that official news will come early next year. This official comment from EA came just hours after a new leak appeared which purportedly details the contents of what could be The Sims 4s final expansion pack.
The future of The Sims franchise has been a hot topic in the fan community for the past few months, with several leaks emerging recently all claiming very different potential scenarios for the show's direction. The latest rumor surfaced on December 23, when X-user @phii_oda claimed it The Sims 4The 21st expansion pack will be “Royalty” themed and will feature three “kingdom types”, including one based on Africa. In the same X post, the insider also claimed that this 21st expansion pack will be The Sims 4s final piece of major content, and that only updates and kit packs will be added to the game afterwards.

EA says official Sims 4 news will arrive in January 2026
Shortly after this leak was published, a report from the Sims Community site went live discussing the leaked information. This article was then shared Sims 4 Subreddit. Just three hours after hitting the Subreddit, member of The Sims' official community team (Reddit username Mindy_SimsCommunity) responded to the post saying the following:
“Hey Simmers. We know there's a lot of misinformation going around. We'll be back in early January with what we know via our official Sims channels. We hope you're all enjoying the holidays!”
This Sims community member (who has written in an official capacity on The Sims subreddit since May 30) did not specify how much of this leak could be considered misinformation. It looks like fans won't have to wait too long to find out, as it sounds like EA will be delivering some official updates in early January via their official channels.
It's also important to note that this EA community comment may have also referred to another rumor that first circulated in November via ATRL user 'gloamingtheplain', which claimed that Project Rene's single-player component (allegedly internally called 'Project X') will be sold separately in late 2026, according to this new single leak. Sims the game can be called The Sims 5but it won't be as “complicated” as many fans expect a full-fledged one Sims 4 sequel to be. This leak also claims that the next Sims 4 the expansion pack will be its last, although the leaker did not know its theme.
November also saw a rumor claiming that The Sims 4 could get some kind of remaster soon, although many i Sims society has expressed its distrust of such a project, including Sims content creator SimMattically, who stated on November 19 via an X post that “there is no Sims 4 remaster.” That said, there are several Sims projects reportedly underway alongside the long-awaited Project Rene, such as some form of mobile Sims games and a new platform known as The Sims Hub.
There's a pretty good chance that EA is about to spill the beans on the future The Sims franchise and put all those rumors to rest. Over the years, EA has occasionally released a “Behind the Sims” video The Sims' official YouTube channel, highlighting new content on the way The Sims 4 and teases the future of the wider franchise. For example, the October 2022 Behind the Sims Summit stream gave fans their very first look at Project Rene, which was described at the time as “next-gen Sims game and creative platform.” It's possible that EA will return with another Behind the Sims stream in January 2026, hopefully one that sheds light on the recent rumors.
