Diablo 4 Associate Game Director Zaven Haroutunian has confirmed that the new Season 11 endgame activity, The Tower, will feature exclusive cosmetics that only the very best players will be able to unlock. However, players should not expect to be able to get these rewards right at the start of Diablo 4 Season 11.
Blizzard is launching The Tower as part of Diablo 4 Season 11, offers a new endgame activity for experienced players to complete. The bottom line is that The Tower will finally take back the charts Diablo 4which the community has been clamoring for ever since they were removed in Season 6. But for many of the best Diablo 4 players, simply topping the leaderboards isn't enough when it comes to bragging rights, and Blizzard is well aware of this for The Tower.
Diablo 4 players can earn “Prestige” cosmetics from the tower by topping the leaderboards
In a conversation with YouTuber Rob2628, associate gaming director Zaven Haroutunian confirmed that The Tower's playoff activity in Diablo 4 will provide “functional rewards” such as gear and currency, but will also include new “prestige” cosmetics, including titles and halos for the top players at the top of the leaderboards at the time of each reset. According to Haroutunian, the idea of titles is that “your character earns the right to have this title, and there's some special formatting and visuals to it.” Halos will be another exclusive cosmetic that players who top the leaderboards will be able to equip, which Haroutunian says is a way for players “to have bragging rights.”
All of these Diablo 4 cosmetics will be tied to the specific character that earns it, rather than the account. “It belongs to that guy. Not your account, you can't just equip it at a level 1, or something like that… So, 'Holy shit, that guy got first place on the Barb leaderboard' or something like that… this is a very exclusive list of people who will be able to do this. It's the best placements from the entire community.” Haroutunian says Blizzard is still discussing how often leaderboards will reset in Season 11 and beyond.
However, players should not expect to be able to earn these new cosmetics immediately. Due to their exclusivity and Blizzard's desire to make them a status symbol among the community, it also takes time to ensure The Tower is a “super-integrity space” before handing out rewards. “Everything has to actually be functional, it has to actually be balanced, it has to be perceived as fair by society, it has to be accepted by society.” Haroutunian insists that “we're committed to doing this, it's going to happen. All eyes right now are on making sure Tower is a competitive place, that it has integrity on the leaderboard,” but it's not clear if these exclusive Tower rewards will even make it Diablo 4 Season 11, or if they will be pushed further down the line.
