Warhorse Studios, the developer of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2seems to be teasing a potential current-gen upgrade for the game's underrated predecessor from 2018. As the studio has now released the final DLC for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2it looks like it might turn attention back to the first entry in the series. When a fan is asked about an upgrade to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S Kingdom Come: DeliveranceWarhorse simply replied with the side eye emoji. While there isn't exact confirmation, it feels like the studio is telling fans to keep their eyes peeled.
This is the first time Warhorse has indicated that there will be an upgrade to the current generation Kingdom Come: Deliverancealthough there have been many leaks and rumors in the past. Earlier this year, an insider with a proven track record when it comes to the Kingdom Come: Deliverance series claimed that the 2018 RPG would be getting a PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S update early next year. According to their source, who supposedly has insider knowledge of what's going on behind the scenes at Warhorse, this is “100% confirmed” and will likely be released sometime between January and April. Fans should take this information with a grain of salt, but the validity of this claim now looks more genuine, as Warhorse himself now appears to be teasing fans.
Kingdom Come 2 vs. Expedition 33: Why GOTY May Not Be as Clear Cut as You Think
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 are heading into a final vote that could be decided in an unexpected way early this year.
Warhorse teases the current-gen update for Kingdom Come: Deliverance
Earlier this week, two Twitter users discussed iconic RPG titles such as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Kingdom Come: Deliverance. One fan noted how they're “surprised” Warhorse hasn't released a current gen patch for Kingdom Come: Deliverance or “even a 60 FPS update” after the success of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, speculates that many fans may wait to play the sequel until the first game comes to modern consoles. Another then simply said, “Could it still be on its way?” to which the official Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 The Twitter account responded with the side-eyes emoji, hinting that the update may be on the way. Although no words were spoken, it's hard not to believe that the 2018 classic will soon receive a major upgrade.
If the rumored update is real, it's possible that a reveal could take place at The Game Awards, which will take place on December 11. There's no confirmation that this will happen, but considering Warhorse has decided to tease fans just days before the biggest gaming event of the year, there's a chance fans could see an announcement sooner than they think. As for what the update itself might look like, fans are hoping to see 60 FPS support, texture improvements, upgrades to global lighting and lighting, and possibly even gameplay mechanics from its successor, such as its much-improved combat system.
Warhorse Studios recently finished the story of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 with its last DLC earlier this year, further adding to the fact that now would be the perfect time to release a current-gen upgrade to its predecessor and either give fans the perfect reason to jump back into the classic or check it out for the very first time. The sequel was much more successful than the original Kingdom Come: Deliverancemeaning there are plenty of players (myself included) who have experienced the end of Henry's story, but not the beginning. With the book now closed Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2it's the perfect time for those who missed out on seeing how it all began.
The Game Awards is shaping up to be a monumental night for Warhorse Studios, as fans are not only speculating that an announcement of a last-gen update for Kingdom Come: Deliverance will be at the event, but this year's installment in the series has also been nominated for Game of the Year. Although it is a strong contender, 2025 has been a huge year for gamers, which means it has a lot of competition. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 appears to be the front-runner to win the coveted prize, but Kingdom Come fans are eager to see the sequel take home the crown.
