A senior game designer on Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has left Warhorse and joined CD Projekt Red to work as a senior mission designer on The Witcher 4.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is widely considered to be one of the best RPGs to be released in the last decade, second only to, you guessed it, The Witcher 3. One of the biggest similarities between Kingdom Come and The Witcher is that they both have amazing quests that are much more involved and detailed than most other RPGs.
With that in mind, expectations are through the roof for The Witcher 4 to continue everything the last game did right and propel other RPGs to follow. We know so little about The Witcher 4 right now that it's hard to say where it's headed, but things are looking even more positive now that a senior Warhorse member has jumped ship to CD Projekt Red.
The Witcher 4 now has a senior Quest designer who worked on The Excellent Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
A Full Circle Moment for RPGs
As pointed out by Twitter user kaarxx_, Karel Kolmann recently confirmed on LinkedIn that he has left Warhorse Studios and moved to CD Projekt Red to work on The Witcher 4. Kolmann was with Warhorse for eight years and held several roles, but was specifically a senior game designer on Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
During his time at KCD2, Kolmann designed 11 missions in the game (which included writing the dialogue and cutscenes), put together the intricate crime system, and even worked as a designer on “large-scale battles and battles”. Hardcore Mode was also designed and written by Kolmann, so he clearly had a big role on Warhorse.
Here's hoping The Witcher 4 gets a hardcore mode similar to Kingdom Come. I can only imagine having to navigate just by looking at the stars.
On his LinkedIn, Kolmann confirmed that he is now working as a senior mission designer on The Witcher 4, which seems like a perfect fit given his work on Kingdom Come. With Deliverance 2's missions considered one of its best aspects, things are definitely looking good for Ciri's big adventure.
