Cyberpunk 2077 could be the next blockbuster title to join Xbox Game Pass library. The popular subscription service is known for adding high-impact games throughout the month, and the latest clues suggest that one of the industry's biggest success stories is on the horizon. While the official announcement is still pending, fans are currently dissecting every detail of a recent social media post to confirm what many suspect is a major addition to Xbox Game Pass in March 2026 line-up.
Xbox Game Pass has changed the way people play on both console and PC since it first arrived back in 2017. Although Game Pass has seen some significant price increases over the past year, the platform remains popular as it consistently updates its catalog with a mix of indie gems and AAA hits. The service is known for its light-hearted marketing style, often using fictional employees to interact with the community and build hype for upcoming releases.
Xbox Game Pass is adding a day-one game today that puts a wild twist on a familiar genre
Xbox Game Pass subscribers at the Ultimate and PC tiers get another title to check out, this time with a fun twist on a tried-and-true genre.
A familiar name in the inbox
The current voltage around Cyberpunk 2077 coming to Game Pass stems from a comically “leaked” internal email shared by the official Xbox Game Pass account. The message comes from a fictional executive named Melissa McGamepass, whose absurdly long title — Chief Executive Director Chair of Senior Operations & Grand Liaison of Video Game Communications — has become a running joke for the brand. In the note, she mentions that there are “not too many games” and points out that there are “so many breathtaking worlds to explore.”
The most obvious hint in the email is a sentence that says the next upcoming addition will be a “v good”, with the letter “v” written in bold. Fans of the genre were quick to point out that “V” is the name of the main character in CD Projekt Red's gritty sci-fi hit. The post's caption also promises that something “v cool” is coming soon, which strongly suggests that the marketing team is intentionally paying attention to that specific letter as a clue.
In addition to the bold letters, the email contains a second important reference that points towards Cyberpunk 2077. The message begins with the phrase, “Wake up social team.” This sounds almost identical to the memorable line that Keanu Reeves' character, Johnny Silverhand, delivered in early trailers for the game, where he famously tells the player to “Wake the hell up, Samurai.” This combination of “v” and “wake up” has the community convinced that a trip to Night City is in their immediate future.
This teaser comes during a time of significant leadership changes within the Xbox organization. Longtime Xbox executive Phil Spencer has officially retired, and former Xbox president Sarah Bond has also left the company. The brand is now guided by Matt Booty and Asha Sharma, with Sharma serving as CEO of Microsoft Gaming. Sharma has been vocal about a new commitment to core Xbox players and has expressed a desire to focus on games that evoke deep emotional responses from audiences.
The “leakage” format has proven itself to be correct. Just last month, a similar emailer was used to hint at the arrival of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 on Xbox Game Pass. In that case, the official announcement followed just one day after the social media clue was posted. If this pattern is correct, an official confirmation of Cyberpunk 2077 can happen as early as Tuesday.
The email also included some humorous nods to other gaming icons to keep fans guessing. The inbox contained a message from Mortal KombatJohnny Cage asks to be the new mascot, along with a silent one-word message from the Doom Slayer. While these other entries are obviously intended as fun easter eggs, the specific bolding of the letter “v” reflects previous teases for games on Xbox Game Pass that Avatar: Frontiers of Pandorawho also used clues on social media right before an official reveal.
If the rumors are true, this would be a massive acquisition for the March 2026 Game Pass roster. Cyberpunk 2077 reached a milestone of 35 million copies sold by the end of 2025, recovering from a difficult launch to become a favorite of action RPG fans. For those who have been curious to see why the game has received so much hype but haven't made an outright purchase, a Game Pass arrival would offer the perfect chance to jump in.
