Crunchyroll has allegedly suffered a massive data breach dating back to March 12, 2026. The threat actor behind the cyber attack claims to have email addresses, IP addresses, credit card information and passwords of registered Crunchyroll subscribers after hacking nearly 100GB of data. Of course, subscribers should play it safe and update their passwords (and either delete or update their payment information) ASAP.

Threat actors like this rely on the chaos caused by these data breaches to get what they want, but this is a serious crime if the allegations are true. According to International Cyber Digest on X, Crunchyroll was hacked by an employee of Telus, one of the company's outsourcing partners in India. The threat actor was able to remove the hack by stealing data from Crunchyroll's ticketing system. The Telus employee malware was allegedly able to snipe information directly from Crunchyroll's database.
Crunchyroll releases statement on March 2026 data breach
GameRant reached out to Crunchyroll earlier today and requested a statement on the latest data breach. A Crunchyroll spokesperson responded and provided GameRant with an official statement about the cyberattack,
We are aware of the latest allegations and are currently working closely with leading cyber security experts to investigate the matter.

In the meantime, be very wary of any email claiming to be from Crunchyroll and be sure to update or delete any personal information in your Crunchyroll account as soon as possible. Similarly, change the passwords of all accounts where you use a universal password, especially if it overlaps with your Crunchyroll subscription. Be sure to keep an eye on your bank statements and credit cards for any shady spending. In the worst case, you have to freeze your cards.
