Cookie Run Franchise Announces New 3D Open-World Game

Cookie Run: New World is the name of a new 3D open world game from South Korean studio Devsisters. Announced during the company's recent annual showcase, the upcoming addition to Cookie Run franchise is still a long way off, slated for release in the late 2020s.

The reveal follows earlier signals that Devsisters was preparing a major expansion of Cookie Run stamp. In a February 2026 strategy update, the company confirmed that it was working on an open-world Unreal Engine game for PC, consoles, and mobile devices. At the time, Devsisters said the upcoming title was codenamed “Project N,” framing it as a way to expand its franchise to new audiences, ultimately helping to strengthen its global footprint.

Project N was officially revealed as Cookie Run: New World during the DevNow 2026 showcase. The March 20 event featured a 91-second trailer that established the game as a big-budget 3D title with a picturesque open world. A company official described the title as an action RPG during the showcase. No more gameplay details were offered, though the South Korean developer did share a bit more about the upcoming title's story and status.

Cookie Run: New World is currently targeting a 2029 launch. The stated launch window is meant to coincide with the series' 20th anniversary. The original entry, OvenBreakwas launched on June 12, 2009. It is not necessary to say that Cookie Run: New World is actively targeting a June 2029 debut. In all likelihood, it's not at a stage where a specific release month is being seriously discussed by Devsister's higher-ups. Modern game development being as complex as it is, it's not possible to plan a specific launch month three years in advance because projects have too many moving parts, which comes with a remarkable degree of unpredictability baked in.

The upcoming open world RPG is set sometime after the era of the five legendary heroes from Cookie Run lore. Players will assume the role of an unassuming protagonist, exploring the many nooks and crannies of the Cookie continent. During their travels, they will face a threat that comes from a mysterious source, the Devsisters said. The combination of an open world format and action RPG combat suggests Cookie Run: New World will have plenty of side quests to offer, in keeping with genre conventions. However, no concrete details were shared during DevNow 2026. Given that the project has seemingly entered active production only recently or is about to (based on its release window), it's likely that many of its gameplay elements aren't set in stone yet.

Cookie Run: New World is the first Devsisters game in development for both PC and consoles. It is also in the works for mobile devices. Although Devsisters didn't elaborate further, its track record indicates that “mobile” means both iOS and Android. Many key questions about the project are yet to be answered, including its business model and basic game design. As for the latter, Devsister's announcement didn't elaborate Cookie Run: New World is planned to be a single player or multiplayer experience. Similarly, it remains unclear whether the Unreal Engine 5-powered title will be paid or adopt some sort of free-to-play business model.

DevNow 2026 also featured reveals of several other games. That group includes new idle RPGs Cookie Run: Crumble and a mobile multiplayer action game called Cookie Run: OvenSmash. The latter will be released on March 26, while the former is slated to launch in the second half of 2026.
