Like many survival games, food is quite important in Hytale. Food items such as wild berries and raw game meat will be some of the first items you will encounter, and will likely be the first items you eat. Instead of restoring a hunger meter, food items restore health and provide some great buffs as well.
Hytale: How to Turn Hides into Leather
Leather is useful in Hytale, so you need to learn how to craft some.
But you don't want to survive on wild berries and raw meat forever, not when there are better options, and you need more health regeneration during long journeys. To get the best food, it's time to break out the chef's stove and cook some more filling options, like a delicious apple pie.
Hytale is currently in Early Accessso the information below may change in the future.
How to cook
The earliest way of cooking is the campfirewhich can be created from your inventory or Workbench of any level with four sticks and optional rubble. The campfire allows you to cook basic mealssuch as boiled venison or roasted vegetables, using Firewood, sticks or charcoal as fuel.
The upgrade to the campfire is the cook's stovewhich is made on a workbench with two copper ingots, any ten logs and any six stones. When placed, it unlocks a much larger variety of recipes from three categories: prepared, baked and ingredients.
Until you get potions, eating food is the most effective way to restore your health. Most basic foods instantly restore your health by at least five percent and give you different buffs depending on mealsuch as Health Regen I or Stamina Regen I.
You can eat during combat, and multiple food items can be eaten at once to continue to restore your health, but the buffs they provide will not stack. Time resets if it's the same buffor it will be overwritten by a stronger version.
Food is consumed by choice an item from your hotbar and urgent the Secondary Action button. It takes one a few seconds to consume the foodand some actions may interrupt eatingsuch as climbing a block or suffer from certain attacks.
What is the benefit of cooking?
Cooked meals do take more ingredients than the basic ones, but they are coming provide more instant health recovery than the other types, making them a lot more useful during combat if you run out of drinks or don't have any at all, and they often do better buffs that last longer.
