CD Projekt Red has some bad news for fans waiting for the “Secret New DLC” for Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt Red has disappointing news for Cyberpunk 2077 fans: it is not planning to release any new DLC or expansions for the game. More than five years have passed since the release of the sci-fi RPG, and although it got off to a notoriously rocky start, it has since bounced back and now holds a special place in many gamers' hearts. Unfortunately, someone is excited about what happens next Cyberpunk 2077 have to wait for its sequel.

By mid-2025, Cyberpunk 2077 received its massive 2.3 update, which introduced new vehicles, additional missions, and an autodrive feature, among a host of other changes. This activity may have caught the attention of some fans, raising hopes that a larger expansion may be on the way. While it's understandable why people would believe these rumors, CDPR has made it clear, in no uncertain terms, that they are little more than wishful thinking.

CDPR says there are no plans for additional Cyberpunk 2077 DLC

On March 10, a user responded to the message that Cyberpunk 2077 was available on Xbox Game Pass to ask about “secret new DLC” and the official Cyberpunk the account immediately shot down the idea. CDPR says they don't plan on making any DLC after 2023 Phantom freedom. In case it left any room for interpretation, the account also said there would be no expansions, ruling out both paid and free content outside of minor updates. It said it would inform fans if this stance changes in the future, but that seems unlikely, given how firm the response is and the fact that CDPR has also denied the existence of new Cyberpunk DLC in the past.

While CDPR may not have suggested anything Cyberpunk 2077 content was on the way, it's easy to see where such rumors could come from. It is becoming increasingly clear that The Witcher 3 will likely get an expansion in 2026, so if new DLC for a 10-plus year old game isn't off the table, something to tide fans over until Cyberpunk 2 makes sense. CDPR has not provided either Cyberpunk 2077 any DLC beyond Phantom freedomwhile The Witcher 3 has received several free and paid expansions since its launch in 2015. That loophole appears to allow the studio to show Cyberpunk some love, but unfortunately for fans waiting for news, it doesn't sound like it's happening.

There is also reason to believe that CDPR had something in mind earlier. The year 2024 suggested leaked files Cyberpunk 2077 was supposed to get a DLC set on the moon, but this never happened. People have speculated that CDPR ended up canceling this expansion because it put time and resources into fixing the base game after its bug-ridden launch, similar to how Cyberpunks multiplayer mode never saw the light of day after this pivot. The apparent cancellation fueled the fire that CDPR could introduce more DLC down the road, potentially repurposing this scrapped content, but now those hopes have been extinguished.

The rumored lunar-based setting could find its way back to the franchise in the sequel, but that is unclear at this time. Regardless, the second game is all fans have to look forward to for now Cyberpunk content, and that wait may take some time. CD Projekt Red has stated that Cyberpunk 2 likely won't come out until at least 2030, and that timeline may also change in light of its aggressive plans for Witcher series. There may be small updates down the road, but it seems like nothing big will be coming to the game for another five years.
