Gearbox Software revealed the new Luck of the Kairish skin for Borderlands 4 players, but before it can be earned, the community must complete a challenge event. Despite a “softer than expected launch” for Borderlands 4 and a period of frustration from the community, the game once again seems to be heading in a positive direction. Gearbox is fresh off launching the second Bounty Pack and is now just weeks away from the highly anticipated Story Pack.
After teasing the Story Pack in February, Gearbox revealed the upcoming content in a new DevCast event. Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned launches for Borderlands 4 on March 26, and as expected, will feature the biggest addition of content the game has seen since its launch in 2025. In addition to the new vault hunter C4SH, the expansion's content will lean into the horror genre, taking place on the shattered remains of the moon Elpis. Legacy characters like Ellie, Pickle, Crazy Earl and Mancubus Bloodtooth make a return, with Creative Director Josh Jeffcoat teasing even more for players to discover. In the meantime, Gearbox continues to dish out free goodies to its community.
Borderlands 4 players have new codes to redeem right now
There's a new set of SHIFT codes for Borderlands 4 players to redeem in-game to get both level loot and new appearances for Vault Hunters.
Borderlands 4 Luck of the Kairish Challenge Details
In the meantime, Gearbox keeps on giving Borderlands 4 players free cosmetics through the SHIFT system. Similar to before Borderlands 4 community challenges like the previous one released for Valentine's Day, Gearbox gives players the chance to unlock the Luck of the Kairish skin for the vault hunters. The skins are clearly Saint Patrick's Day inspired, as the outfits feature mainly green and gold colors, shamrock icons, and based on the image, Vex, Amon, and Harlowe have gone red-headed. Right now it's not known if the upcoming C4SH will also get a “Luck of the Kairish” skin as well, so right now it seems to only be for the original 4.
But Gearbox isn't just giving away the skin for free. To unlock the skin in its entirety, players will have from March 12th to Sunday March 15th to collectively loot 1.5 million legendary weapons and items. Once the challenge is successful, players can go to the Gearbox SHIFT website to redeem the code, which will send the outfit to the linked account. The challenge can be completed on all platforms there Borderlands 4 is available, such as PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. It is not known how long the code will be active, but most people Borderlands 4 cosmetic SHIFT codes are set for 2030, so it is highly likely that the same will be set for Luck of the Kairish as well.

Borderlands 4 has evolved in many ways since it launched in September 2025. Outside of the holiday content, fans have seen two Bounty Packs drop and a free update that brought the first invincible boss called Bloomreaper. Recently, the Pearlescent rarity was also added to the game, giving fans a new level of loot to hunt in-game. Thanks to a Borderlands 4 2026 roadmap, fans have a good idea of when even more new content should arrive later this year.

So far, Gearbox has confirmed 3 more Bounty Packs, another Invincible Boss, as well as a second story pack, but details and release information are still scarce. But after the release of the Legend of the Stone Demon Bounty Pack, Borderlands 4 saw some controversy from players upset that the studio made a Pearlescent Torgue Pistol a guaranteed drop for completing the Ordonite Processor activity. Considering that Pearlescent weapons are intended to be the ultimate pursuit for players, many expressed their disappointment that Gearbox only gave one away, feeling that it devalued the rarity and eliminated the challenge of discovering them.
