Borderlands 4 players are upset about loot drop changes

The well-received Seasons Lootings event for Borderlands 4 has officially come to an end, frustrating players who enjoyed the higher-than-expected drops on certain weapons. It was an eventful 2025 too Borderlands 4after an expected build-up to the September launch, which was quickly met with a number of major controversies. Still, Gearbox has a lot planned for its 2026 game, but the new year has seemingly started on a sour note with another issue leading to player frustration.

Despite a launch that was described as “softer than expected” by parent company Take-Two, Gearbox continues to fine-tune its looter-shooter through updates, events and new content. The journey hasn't always been smooth, either Borderlands 4 has seen plenty of controversy in recent months, from various comments from CEO Randy Pitchford, to a messy launch on PC, to in-game events like the Horrors of Kairos event not living up to player expectations. Unfortunately, Borderlands 4 has found himself embroiled in another controversy with a frustrated fan base.

Borderlands 4 post-launch content announcement is good news for fans

Gearbox Software confirms a new post-launch content detail for Borderlands 4 for those who were surprised by Bounty Pack 1 being released for free.

The Borderlands 4 Seasons Lootings event has ended, including the higher drop numbers

The latest Borderlands 4 the controversy struck alongside its minor update on January 8, which was primarily just the game's normal weekly reset. But during the holiday season and to celebrate the launch of Borderlands 4's How Rush Saved Mercenary Day, Gearbox started a special “Season's Lootings” mod, significantly increasing the legendary drop rate. At the time, it was not known how long this modifier would remain, prompting a fan to see if the drop rate was still active now that the studio was back from the holiday break.

Unfortunately, the seasonal event has come to an end, with Gearbox Software's official account responding that drop numbers have returned to pre-holiday percentages. However, the account indicated that the studio was well aware of the event's reception with fans and is currently looking into a long-term increase. There is currently no timeframe for a fix, but the studio is aware of it, so hopefully the team can apply the change quickly.

Still, the news didn't sit well with gamers, as many began to question why the studio would remove something that fans actively liked. Some even vowed to play until the rates reset, while others were confused as to why there was a need to even investigate, since the solution is already known. There were even a few who continued to bring up the lack of a true New Game+ too Borderlands 4s endgame and the speed changes hurt the game's overall gameplay loop.

Drop rates in the Borderlands series are always a hot topic among gamers, more so in the current game with its ability to drop weapons with different parts. Not only that, Gearbox isn't sharing the actual weapon drop rate, although fans believe they've figured out the rate of Borderlands 4 legendary weapons and if the data is correct it is much lower than expected. Finding “God Roll” gear is part of the appeal of loot games like Borderlands 4which makes special events like Seasons Lootings all the more desirable as it potentially facilitates the search for premium gear.
