Borderlands 4 has launched its new Season's Lootings holiday event, with some pretty absurd drops for Legendary loot until January 8, 2026. Players can jump in now and take advantage of the opportunity to get some of Borderlands 4s legendary items at a much faster rate than before. Gearbox has also made three Big Encore Bosses active at the same time, giving the development team time to relax during the holiday season.
Since the launch of Borderlands 4Gearbox has tried to keep up with the live service elements of the game, with frequent in-game events to keep players coming back to Kairos. Some would say it's had a mixed effect so far – the game has suffered declining player numbers from its strong launch, leading some to question whether the developer had taken the right approach with Borderlands 4. Particularly, BL4The Halloween event received particular criticism, with players feeling that Gearbox had introduced a boring gate for what were ultimately not very worthwhile rewards. Hopefully the new holiday event will send that in the other direction and take much of the toll out of an area of Borderlands 4.

Borderlands 4 Season's Lootings Event increases the legendary drop rate by up to 5x
In an announcement on Steam, Gearbox confirmed that the new Borderlands 4 the holiday event, titled Season's Lootings, is available now in-game until January 8, 2026. While Season's Lootings is active, players will have a five times greater chance of getting a Borderlands 4 Legendary drop, except for Big Encore Bosses and Bloomreaper. This means that now is the perfect time for any player who still has their eye on a certain legendary item to round out their perfect build, jump into the game and start farming. It can even be good for players who know what their next character will be, and to farm the legendaries in advance to avoid the grin outside the Season's Lootings window. While “up to 5x more likely” feels like a pretty absurd legendary drop rate, Gearbox insists that they “will still be rare enough to feel special, in line with our overall design intent.”
To round out the year in terms of minor updates, Gearbox has also added a triple threat of Big Encore Bosses in Borderlands 4 to bring players up to January 8th, with three True Bosses active at the same time. This to allow Borderlands 4 team to take some well-deserved time off over the holiday period, with the weekly rotation of managers resuming as usual from 8 January. This also applies to the usual Thursday change to weekly activities. Gearbox says that as of now, Weekly Activities will not be replaced until the team returns in the new year. Some time off is certainly reasonable, especially with all the upcoming hard work for the planned Borderlands 4 content 2026. In addition to the above changes, the new Borderlands 4 minor update has another change, which fixes an exploit where Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode rewards can be picked up in non-UVHM Bloomreaper battles.
2026 will be a huge year for Borderlands 4. While the number of players may be down, it doesn't really tell the whole story. Many players have already completed their first playthrough of the game and are looking for a good reason to return. Small events are great for existing players, but big content drops are really what will bring players back to the fold. Gearbox will be released next year Borderlands 4s first new Vault Hunter, C4SH, along with Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned. This is planned to be the first Story Pack for Borderlands 4which should help revive interest in Gearbox's latest looter-shooter.
