In the wake of Sony's unexpected and shocking closure of Bluepoint Games, just five years after buying the studio, one of the main thoughts was — Why was Bluepoint working on anything but a remake of Bloodborne? — a seemingly surefire hit for a studio in need of one.
It turns out that Bluepoint actually set Sony up to remake the FromSoftware title. However, it was rejected, and it was not Sony who rejected the plan.
With the closure of Bluepoint games, I have officially lost all faith in PlayStation
Bluepoint Games has been shut down by Sony after they acquired the studio several years ago.
In a new extensive report from Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, it was revealed that the now-defunct studio was unsuccessfully trying to get a Bloodborne remake off the ground in early 2025. The idea, according to Schreier, had been considered before and was even expected, but never went into production.
Bluepoint's second pitch also went nowhere in the end.
“The studio was told the numbers made sense but FromSoftware didn't want that to happen, according to people familiar with the process,” Schreier wrote.
The reporting lends further credence to what former president of SIE Worldwide Studios for PlayStation, Shuhei Yoshida, theorized in an interview last year about the beloved franchise. Specifically, that Hidetaka Miyazaki “loved” the franchise but didn't want anyone else to touch it.
“Miyazaki-san really loved Bloodborne and what he created,” Yoshida said. “I think he's interested, but he's so successful and he's so busy that he can't do it himself, but he doesn't want anyone else to touch it.”
Understanding that element, the PlayStation team “respects his wish,” Yoshida added. Based on Schreier's reporting, it seems the theory is much closer to reality.
Whether or not Bloodborne ends up being remade is anyone's guess at this point. Given how busy FromSoftware is as a studio, it's almost certainly not the biggest priority. However, that hasn't stopped the studio from gauging fan interest in all things Bloodborne.
Bloodborne continues to be a massive fan request
As recently as February 2025, FromSoftware measured fans whether they would like to see more Bloodborne content via a survey held during Elden Ring: Nightreign's network test.
A few months later, it was revealed that Bloodborne was at the time Sony's 10th best-selling title in full dollar sales of Sony-published games in the US, highlighting how popular the game is and certainly how well received a potential remake would be.
All the while, fans' attempts to remake the game were not successful, with one creator revealing they had received a cease-and-desist letter. Ironically, after Bluepoint's closure, Sony asked fans what remake they'd like to see next on social media, though that post, as expected, didn't last long.

Marathon is slow, difficult and full of depth – but who is this game for?
I'm fine with Marathon, but something about the game feels off.
