Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 publisher Activision has confirmed that players will be able to jump into the first major content update of the year on January 8, but fans will want to make sure they've cleared out plenty of space on their hard drives, as the file size appears to be absolutely massive. Next update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and War zonewhich is known as Season 1 Reloaded and marks the official halfway point of the shooter's first season, will add new maps, modes, weapons and more, but not without a nearly 200GB update.
After the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 back in November, Treyarch wasted no time in giving players an absolutely packed content update with Season 1, which launched for PlayStation, Xbox and PC on December 4th. Black Ops 7The first season added three brand new maps, a remaster of the iconic Black Ops 2 map Standoff and classic game modes including Prop Hunt, One In The Chamber, Sharpshooter and more. Those who are more fond of Call of Dutys free-to-play battle royale title, War zonealso had a lot to check out, as Season 1 saw the two shooters become fully integrated with each other. Players couldn't just bring in all their levels Black Ops 7 weapon into War zonehowever, the update also brought fans a new Resurgence map known as Haven's Hollow.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 tells its most dedicated players to Touch Grass
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 contains a hidden joke in one of its achievements, telling some of its most hardcore players to touch grass.
Black Ops 7's first mid-season update is 174GB on Battle.net
As we approach the halfway point of Season 1, Activision and Treyarch are preparing to release a mid-season update with Call of Dutys major season 1 reloaded update. It's now been confirmed that the update will go live on Thursday, January 8, but some players can preload the patch right now, and that's absolutely huge. Some users are reporting that the file size of the update is over 174 GB on Battle.net. It's unclear why players have to download such a massive update, but there are some caveats to this huge update. The size of the patch will vary depending on the platform, and it will also be different depending on which players have installed. For those who just play War zone and have not Black Ops 7 installed, for example, the size of the update will likely be much smaller.
Aside from a short trailer showcasing the new maps launching alongside Season 1 Reloaded, further details are currently unknown. Thankfully, a blog post breaking down the update is expected tomorrow, January 7th. What is currently known is that the mid-season update will see a brand new map known as Jakei, set across the neon-lit rooftops of Japan. More nostalgia is also on the way, as two more remastered maps will also be available with Season 1 Reloaded. The first is Fringe, an icon Black Ops 3 map and Meltdown, a Black Ops 2 map that has never been remastered before.
It's not the first time Call of Duty has had a huge file size for one of its big updates, and it probably won't be the last. The franchise has become a bit of a running joke in recent years, as the controversial one Call of Duty The HQ app takes up a lot of space on players' hard drives if they have multiple packs and titles installed. While new entries in the series were once their own separate apps, PlayStation, Xbox and PC users are now forced to navigate the clunky user interface of Call of Duty HQ, a unified app that currently includes War zone, Black Ops 6and Black Ops 7. The 2022 century Modern Warfare 2 and its follow-up, Modern Warfare 3were recently removed from the app and can now be downloaded as separate titles.
With the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 barely make a dent in Call of Duty HQ app players rely on Steam, many fans likely won't be eager to return to the franchise with a 174GB update. After many controversies surrounding cosmetic items, cheats and tasty updates all the time Black Ops 6s life cycle, it appears to have had a serious knock-on effect for Black Ops 7as the last entry in the series was knocked off Battlefield 6 this year.
