Weird and crazy

The first major first-person shooter slated for 2026 is High On Life 2. The original game was a surprise hit when it was released in 2022, thanks to its bizarre humor and strange talking weapons. It seems that the same smart weapons will return in the sequel, along with new ones.

Although the game has a release date, it is still very much unknown. Will it be somewhat open again, or will it be more segmented as one Call of Duty campaign? Whatever the case may be, fans can expect High On Life 2 to be another freak shooter, and that's all that matters.

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 is the FPS for those who miss the shooter days of the 90s Downfall and Wolfenstein 3-D. These days, retro shooters that harken back to the glory days of non-stop shooting are categorized as “Boomer Shooters”, which is fun and fitting.

Like the original 2023 game, this sequel will feature sprite-based models in fully 3D environments. It will have lots of classic Warhammer franchise weapons, from rifles that fire bolts to chainsaw swords. For anyone who missed the original game, they should play it now to catch up sooner Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 declines in 2026.

Valor Mortis

A French Revolution

  • Planned release date: 2026

  • Planned systems: PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S

Valor Mortis takes place in a messed up version of what appears to be the French Revolutionary War. As a deserter from Napoleon's army, players are just trying to survive as countrymen, and enemies have begun to mutate around them. They transform into creatures, making this fantasy story game look like a soul-like adventure.

It's not strictly a shooter, though Valor Mortis will give players plenty of weapons to fight back with, from pistols to rifles. There will also be melee weapons like swords, and it seems like magic or some kind of power system will be in the game as well.

Protocol for the use of animals

Monkey Business

  • Developer: The Brotherhood
  • Publisher: The Brotherhood
  • Planned release date: 2026
  • Planned systems: PC

Valor Mortis has horror vibes, though Protocol for the use of animals will be pure horror in first person. Players will wake up as a chimpanzee named Penn who can speak. The lab he grew up in appears to have been destroyed, and his companions are now monsters that want to feed.

Penn isn't alone though, as he has a mouse buddy who seems to communicate through a Tamagotchi-like device. This unconventional pairing, weapon loading and setup helps Protocol for the use of animals stands out, and it should give the scary vibes when it launches next year, and hopefully on more than just PCs.

It's almost like the Vietnam version of Battlefield 6complete with tons of weapons and soldier classes to check out. While a campaign would have been nice, multiplayer fans will at least eat pretty close Hell Let Loose: Vietnam comes out.
