Big Assassin's Creed upgrades are reportedly in the works

Several classics Assassin's Creed games could get 60 FPS updates in the future, following the recent lead by Far Cry series. This kind of update would go a long way to improving the experience for some of the older ones Assassin's Creed titles when played on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.

In the past, Ubisoft has provided support for Assassin's Creed games long after their initial release date. Over the years, Ubisoft has added Steam achievements to various Assassin's Creed games, even though the games were initially launched without Steam-specific features. And while it would have been better to have these features right at the beginning, it's still good that the company has looked at the titles every now and then, even though it would have been easier to leave them at this point. Now it seems that even more upgrades are planned for the series' older games in the near future.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced Is A Second Wind In The Franchise's Sails, But It's Not A New Ship

While there's a lot of excitement surrounding Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, it's worth remembering that it's a version of the past, not the future.

Ubisoft may be working on 60 FPS upgrades for older Assassin's Creed titles

Speaking on the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast, insider Tom Henderson claimed that Ubisoft is looking to give some older Assassin's Creed games a 60 FPS upgrade on current generation consoles, which would be a huge improvement to the experience for those returning to them in 2026 and beyond. “Obviously they just rolled out Far Cry 60 FPS right?” Henderson explained. “I think now they're starting to with Assassin's Creed, I think Unity might be one of the first to get a 60 FPS update.” Assassin's Creed Unity was the only game Henderson specifically named here, but the implication is certainly that it wouldn't be the only one. There are a bunch of games that are limited to 30 FPS on consoles that could be in line for an upgrade, including Assassin's Creed 3, Villainand The Ezio Collection. Black flag also fits the criteria, although it has long been rumoured Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag resynced can potentially hamper those chances.

Although Ubisoft's plans on the matter remain unclear, 60 FPS upgrades for Assassin's Creed titles would be in line with the company's recent actions. The studio recently rolled out 60 FPS updates for three Far Cry game: Far cry 3, Blood Dragonand Primal. All three came as a pleasant surprise to gamers, and with Ubisoft seemingly focusing on some of its most popular franchises of late, it would make a lot of sense to earn some goodwill with free 60 FPS updates. It wouldn't be the first time Ubisoft has done this with Assassin's Creedeither. In November 2024, Ubisoft released a 60 FPS update for Assassin's Creed Syndicateand did the same in 2022 with Assassin's Creed Origins. It's not clear why it stopped after this, but it seems players can finally get more upgrades after all.

Overlooking Notre Dame in Assassin's Creed Unity

With Ubisoft's stock taking a massive hit lately and the company undergoing a significant restructuring, it seems Assassin's Creed will become even more central to its plans in the coming years. Current rumors suggest that, as a result of recent restructuring, the long rumored Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag resynced has been delayed, although this is still unconfirmed. The next main game in the series is Assassin's Creed Hexalthough very little information has been revealed about the title at the moment. Considering how important it is Assassin's Creed is to Ubisoft at this point, it's going to be a very interesting few years for the franchise.
