Best summon builds for every character in DQ7 Reimagined

Dragon Quest 7s cold system stands as one of the most expansive class frameworks in the entire series, offering players dozens of potential career paths for their party members. With so many options available, it can feel overwhelming to determine the optimal summons for each character.

While the beauty of Dragon Quest 7 lies in its flexibility – allowing players to customize their party however they want – some professions complement specific characters better than others based on their natural stat growth and role within the party. Add in Moonlighting, and you have a whole mess of options on your hands.

Best basic summons for each character

Hero, Kiefer and Maribel talk outside the shrine in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined.

Basic occupations constitute the basis of your characters development and provides essential skills that remain useful throughout the game. These classes are immediately available and teach basic abilities, and can be useful as Moonlighting options even in the late game!

Calling

Reasoning

Hero

Martial artist / warrior

Magician

The hero is one best possible in DQ7, and can thrive in pretty much any profession (although putting him in a support profession is a waste of his talents). He quickly thrives as one Martial artist or warrior thanks to their powerful physical attacks.

Warrior would be tanksbut you won't come needs a tank to start with – when you need someone tanky you can use Moonlighting to progress in that profession and unlock new professions.

He can also do really well with Magicianbut this probably fits better when you have it Moonlighting unlocked or you have other party members in physical professions to compensate for the difference. You'll probably also benefit from leveling him up in Priest, but mostly as a prerequisite for Paladin.

Maribel

Mage / Priest

As a magician in the group, Maribel should be in magic classes and doesn't experiment much from there. She really shines here and can easily pump out some of the highest damage numbers in the game with the best spells.

Yeast

Shepherd / Thief / Sailor

With his speed, Ruff is very good at being one offensive support character. Shepherd is more supportive, while Thief is more offensive, but both are useful in many situations.

Sailor is also a good choice for Ruffwhich gives him some physical power while supporting the general idea that he is a support character. He's not a total powerhouse, but Sailor is great for clearing up random battles against large groups.

Aisha

Troubadour

Aishe's default class is like Dancer, but a bit better, so Troubadour is the basic choice it makes the most sense here.

Sea view

Warrior

Mervyn is it decisive tanky physical characterso polishing your stats and skill list with what Warrior offers is an excellent idea.

Aishe uses Kiss Me Deadly during a battle in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined.

Intermediate professions unlock after mastering specific basic classes, offers more specialized roles and powerful abilities. These professions define your party's strategic identity and battle strategy.

Character

Calling

Reasoning

Hero

Armamentist

Thanks to his balanced stat spread, combine physical and magical power with armamentalism skills is a wonderful choice for the hero. The Gladiator also makes a decent backup, if needed.

Maribel

Sage

Sage is a great choice for Maribel, combining the best aspects of the mage and cleric callings. It allows her to be offensive and supportive, while giving her a free slot (via Moonlighting) to train up other professions if you're aiming for Druid, or focus on offense or defense by choosing Mage or Priest as a secondary.

Yeast

Monster Master / Pirate

Monster Master fits Ruff's stats as well as his entire character. It's a flexible and a bit risky (sometimes) profession, but can do really good things. Pirate is readily available for a Ruff with Thief and Sailor experience, and is a great way to boost his physical offense.

Aisha

Light source

Aisha is good supporting characterand Luminary is a good support profession. It has a hefty unlock requirement (three Basic vocations mastered), but it's well worth the investment. Get access to Oomph alone is worth it.

Sea view

Paladin

Mervyn's starting profession is well chosen – one supporting tank is perfect for him. But as a secondary, he really appreciates Gladiator for the extra offense.

Best advanced summons for each character

A full party changing summons at Alltrades Abbey in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined.

Advanced professions represent the pinnacle of class progression, requiring mastery of several intermediate professions. These elite classes combine the best aspects of their prerequisites and can form the basis of your entire strategy for a character.

Character

Calling

Reasoning

Hero

Hero

It's all in the name! The hero is the character who has the best reasons to experiment a lot with his summons, leading him to master more than other characters, making this pretty easy unlock for him. It has a variety of very useful skills that will greatly benefit from his great stats (especially if you feed him lots of seeds).

Maribel

Druid

Maribel's magical calling? Pioneering. Joking aside, this is an obvious fit for Maribel, but be careful of the temptation to just put her in this calling and leave it at that – Druid is powerful, but expensive, you might want to back it up with Mage to gain access to more basic spells.

Yeast

Hero

If you really want Ruff in an advanced profession, Hero is a good fit for Ruff. He has good enough stats to make things work.

Aisha

Druid

Aishe is another character who doesn't needs an advanced profession, but if you've leaned on her dancer vibes and supportive orientation when recruiting for the rest of the game, Druid has some powerful options for her.

Sea view

Master

Champion provides some incredible offensive options for Mervyn, perfect for those times when his support skills aren't needed.

Best endgame builds for each character

Change professions in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, with all party members in endgame builds.

This is where we found the absolute best success for each character during my playthrough. It's not heavily optimized for the hardest matches in the game, but it got me through the game's last few boss fights on normal difficulty without much worry at all.

Character

Professions

Reasoning

Hero

Hero / Armamentalist

This is the perfect thing combination of physical and magical powerturn the hero into an offensive powerhouse with powerful options for basically every fight in the game.

Maribel

Sage / Stomach

Combining magical strength with just enough support options to make her a wonderful addition to any party, this is wonderful for Maribel. Sap is one of the best support spells in the game, and Mage's Let Loose provides guaranteed critical hits can be a total game changer.

Yeast

Monster Master / Pirate

This combination makes Ruff one offensive powerhouse with great options for most battles.

Aisha

Luminary / Druid

This combination makes Aishe an extremely good support character who can also hold her own when the setup is complete. Her damage output is great, and Pass the torch (which gives her her turn to another character) is a great tool to have for any endgame party. She is also this party's source Omnihealone of the most clutch spells in the game.

Sea view

Champion / Paladin

There is little to explain with this choice. It works all-in with defensive physicality and healing supportmaking the Mervyn a fantastic tool for the toughest, longest matches.
