In most horror games, the player is thrown into the role of the unfortunate survivor who is in a truly terrible situation, relying on their reason and whatever they can get hold of to cut the killer, rather than being the killer itself.

But this is not the case for all horror games, as there are a few titles that turn the script on the head, which allows the player to inhabit the killer's body, whether it is a fact they are aware of from the beginning, or a shocking twist that comes at the end.

Some finishes lead to a tragic murder

A CIA crypt analyst named Adam leaves the city's life and movement with his wife Emma and moves them both to a distant rural house, where he believes he will have the peace and quiet needed to crack a tough military code that may prove to be decisive for the result of the Cold War. But this new place is not as calm as he hoped after discovering the diary of a man named Nicholas Hyde in the wind who lived in this house year ago and changed the course of Adam and Emma's love irrevocably.

The game ends when it starts, with Emma tied up and interrogated. It turns out that Adam was the one who questioned her, and many of the end of the game leads to him killing her, which was shown at the beginning of the game. As someone who was a pretty dedicated husband for most of the game, it came as a pretty shock to players, who were sure that the killer must initially be someone that the player would stop, not the player's character themselves.

Bioshock 2

Become the big dad

In the first Biohock Games, big dads were the most impressive threat in the game, as they were much more dangerous and much more scary than Splicers. Players always had a tough time on their hands in front of one of these dive suit that wears Goliaths that could easily kill unprepared players. Even players who were sure they were ready would probably have been burning through all their resources, including their courage.

And then the sequel arrived, who placed players in the shoes on one of these terrible killers to tear down all who came too close to their little sister. It was a healthy breath to play one of these creatures rather than an unhappy and unhappy man who was stuck in Rapture.

In a game where a horrible, The thing-The -like creature has broken enclosure, most horror games would have the player as a researcher or armed guard, and roared them with the task of killing or catching the animal. But Carcass Takes things in a completely different direction, as the player is the amorphic creature in question when they flee from the facility.

Many people will be on their way, and so the player must kill everyone on their way, develop new skills like Dash (which allows them to break through barricades) and get bigger and bigger until there is no hope of stopping them. A novel “Reverse-Horror” games, Carrion is really for those who are tired of playing survivors in these situations-the ones who want a fresh air in horror play.

Death of daylight

Players choose between the role of survivor or murderer

The asymmetrical multiplayer horror play that has not only survived but thrived over the years, Death of daylight Pits four survivors against a murderer in a trial. The survivors must avoid the killer and complete the goals to flee with their lives. The murder's job is to connect the survivors enough to sacrifice them to the device, or they can use a Mori to kill them in a creative way.

Both sides of this game obviously have very different playing styles, and the different murderers (each with their own unique forces) make murderers even more versatile, but this is also one of the most important draws of playing them. That and players have the opportunity to play famous horror icons like Michael Myers from Halloween franchise, Cry Own Ghostface, and even Spring Trap from Five nights at Freddy's.

A tragic death cycle

One of the many indie horror games inspired by the very successful but finally doomed PtThe Countenance Is a pretty dark and gloomy game that places players in the shoes for Dwayne Anderson, who committed Family before the events in the game begin. He wakes up in his house, the room covered with bloody evidence of his wrong and immediately searches for a way out of the house.

It is not as simple as just going up to the front door and opening it, when strange events begin to occur, with players who witness the horrible fate that suited those who lived in this house before him, each has their own scary chapter dedicated to them. Whether all this is his transport to the afterlife or his own personal hell is to interpret.

Manhunt

Its violent content led it to be banned in several countries

In a fictional place called Carcer City, Death Row Inmate James Earl Cash will be implemented via fatal injection, but it turns out that the needle was actually filled with a sedative, which someone known as the director has other plans for cash – his freedom, in exchange for his services.

His services kill them as the director tells him, and the player has no choice but to play with, chase down the gangs and kill them in such a brutal way that many countries directly ban the game. But those who managed to get hold of the game had the chance to play a shocking horror title that drew no blows. At least players could take some comfort in the fact that they did not kill innocents, at least.

Silent Hill 2

The tragic final reveals the truth

James Sunderland is called back to Hans and Marias once favorite holiday destination: Silent Hill. Although Mary had probably died of a disease three years ago, he receives a letter from calling him back to their special place. Although he knows it is impossible, he comes back regardless and goes about searching this city for her, just to see that it lacks people, now a city full of monsters.

For the whole game, players believe what James has told them about Mary's passing, but a videotape found towards the end of the game reveals the actual truth behind her death, which is that James killed her with her own hands. He buried the truth all the time and suppressed his debt and sadness until players see the truth in what was one of the most shocking turns in horror playing history.
