If you are having a hard time Marathon and want to choose one of the easiest classes, Destroyer can be the one to pick up. This Runner Shell has a mixture of abilities that allow you to move better on each map and also demolish your enemies, whether they are UESC units or other runners.
However, the fact that this class is readily available does not make it easy to use. After all, this is not an easy extraction shooter. Let's go over the best builds for Destroyer, what each ability does, and how you should play with this Runner Shell in Marathon.
Destroyer overview
Destroyer is a balanced class that gives you a good number of defensive and offensive options. For example, their tactical ability, Riot Barricade, allows you to block damage from someone shooting at you. You have to mix this with your ability to bump in the air, in this way:
- Run towards an enemy while using Riot Barricadewait for them to waste their charger and start reloading, and then jump and use the Thruster to the side to mess with your position and make it harder for them to shoot you. It's a winning strategy for taking down enemies in one-on-one scenarios.
Utilize how much faster the destroyer can run, both to escape from enemies or to pursue them. Just keep an eye on your heat meter, because you'll be in trouble if you overheat during a fight.
Destroyer's Prime Ability is great for dealing significant damage against enemies, and you should be able to take one or two with a little luck and good positioning.

Search and destroy |
Foremost |
Activates shoulder-mounted missile pods that deal damage and immobilize targets you shoot with your primary or secondary weapon. |
|
|
Riot barricade |
Tactical |
Activates an energy shield that blocks all incoming damage. It consumes its own energy when activated, and if it takes damage it consumes more. |
|
|
Thruster |
Features |
It uses boosters to propel you in a direction while in the air. It increases the heat every time you use it. |
Basically no cooldown, it's available when you touch the ground. Be mindful of your heat though. |
|
Tactical sprint |
Features |
Press Sprint twice to go faster. It builds your heat meter. |
Ditto Thruster. |
Best Destroyer Loadouts
We have prepared two basic builds for Destroyer. The first is for when you have a few hours into the game and can already find some basic weapons, and the other is for later, when you already have a really expensive vault.
Thanks to their abilities, you can go with any type of weapon, whatever suits you best. We would recommend mix something near and mid rangesuch as a shotgun and an assault rifle. But again, you really can't go wrong as long as you play aggressively with your Prime Ability when it's available, and find the best ways to use your Riot Barricade.
Depending on how far into the game you are and how your vault looks, you should always walk out with at least three shields and health regens.

Cores |
Core site 1: Bombardier. (Defeating enemies while your Search and Destroy is active extends its duration.) Core Slot 2: Heavy ammunition. (Defeating enemies with explosive damage reduces the cooldown of your next Search and Destroy.) |
|
Implant |
Main implant: Regen V2. (Slightly reduce weapon handling and lower aiming speed.) Torso Implants: Survival Kit V2. (Increases firewall, hardware, ping duration, revive speed, self-repair speed.) Bone implants: Solid Stance V2. (Moves and makes weapons faster after using a Shield Charge.) |
These implants and cores are not that hard to find. The two cores are perfect for using your Prime Ability for as long as possible and then getting it back sooner. The implants focus on moving a bit faster and having a better reaction with your weapons.

Cores |
Core site 1: Counterattack. (When Riot Barricade takes damage, you periodically release a retaliatory missile at your attacker.) Core Slot 2: Bull rush. (Your Riot Barricade does not passively drain energy while performing your tactical sprint.) |
|
Implant |
Main implant: Regen V4. (A big improvement from V2.) Torso Implants: Helping hands V4. (Snapshot Rifling + Haptic Feedback + better firewall and Primer Recovery.) Bone implants: Graceful Landings V4. (More defense from melee attacks and explosives + better sprint and more tactical ability energy after defeating an enemy.) |
With this build and cores, you have to be aggressive and eat your rivals like they're nothing. Your Riot Barricade will be a defensive and offensive nightmare.
