Straw Hats in One Piece have been through a lot in the last 25 years, and they have changed and grown considerably. While they've only been together about a quarter of that time in the story itself, Luffy and his nakama have traveled the world, visiting dozens of islands and taking on enemies of all shapes, sizes, and strengths. While not all members have or can transform, some of the Straw Hats have developed new forms that either enhance or diversify their skills. Plus, they usually look amazing.
One Piece: Every Straw Hat Pirate's age, height and birthday
The Straw Hat Pirates are one of the youngest, most ambitious crews in One Piece. Here are the characters' ages, heights and birthdays.
Despite being arguably the definitive battle, One Piece doesn't rely on introducing epic new transformations, opting to limit these reveals to rare instances. Consequently, when one of these moments arrives, it not only feels extra special but also tends to be a surprise, as they are usually not heralded too heavily. This also means that Eiichiro Oda really needs to stick the landing with the design of these forms, and the mangaka rarely misses the mark. Therefore, let's go through the best forms of the Straw Hat Pirates.
Several forms of the same character can be included.

Luffy's Bounce Man Form
Luffy's Signature Gear 4 look would become an iconic look for the main character
- First appearance: Episode 726
When most people talk about Gear 4 Luffy, they are often referring to Bounce Man, the very first form he would show off after unleashing Gear 4 against Doflamingo. The sheer size of Luffy's body in this form ends up making his head look small, while his gigantic muscular arms, which are protected with glowing, armored Haki, show off the incredible power boost he receives when he activates this form against a tough opponent.
Another minor detail that can be easy to miss is the flame pattern that covers Luffy's neck after he goes into Gear 4, signifying the burning rage he feels when forced to use this technique against a stubborn opponent who just won't give up. The way Luffy can twist and turn his limbs in this form also makes it a lot more fun to watch in action.

Chopper's Horn Point (Pre-Timeskip)
Chopper's appearance would be similar to that of a yellow reindeer in Horn Point
- First appearance: Episode 115
After the time jump, Chopper's Horn Point form would simply cause his horns to grow to massive proportions, but it wasn't always like this. In fact, it was supposed to have a completely different design before the time jump, where it instead made Chopper look like an incredibly yellow reindeer, who had giant hands to crush his opponents with, along with huge horns that could easily take out anyone who dared stand in his way.
One Piece: Chopper's best moment in the show
Chopper has had some memorable moments throughout One Piece. These are the best of the bunch.
While this is arguably one of Chopper's scariest designs in the series, it's also smart of Oda to make this more of a beastly hybrid, rather than just turning it into a pure reindeer. As a result, it culminates in an appearance that appears to be multiple animals all merged into one, which admittedly makes it very hard to look away from due to how unique it is.
The post-timeskip version doesn't look terrible by any means, but it's nowhere near as terrifying as the original design.
6
Nico Robin's Demonio Fleurs Form
A terrifying transformation that emphasizes the “devil” aspect of Robin's nickname
- First appearance: Section 1044
When creating the terrifying Demonio Fleurs form for Robin, Oda leaned heavily into the gothic horror aesthetic to conjure up a design unlike anything seen in the series. While Robin's giant pitch-black vampire wings are the most noticeable aspect of the design, her glowing red eyes and demonic horns make her appear even more sinister. The creepy smile that can always be seen on Robin's face in this form serves as the cherry on top of an already incredible design.
Oda also decided to purposefully keep much of this form shrouded in darkness, heightening the eeriness and creating an aura of mystery that would make fans wonder what this form even is, and how someone as calm and collected as Robin would be the one to acquire it.
5
Chopper's Monster Point
Chopper transforms into a menacing behemoth when adopting the Monster Point
- First appearance: Episode 290
Chopper's Monster Point changes almost every physical aspect of the usually cute and cuddly Doctor of the Straw Hat team. While his other point forms will resemble Chopper's normal form, Monster Point transforms him into a massive behemoth whose entire body is covered in long and thick brown fur, with the only recognizable part being Chopper's hat and the horns protruding from his head.
While the form may seem a bit minimalistic, it's this simplicity that ends up making it so captivating to watch, and also works to highlight the smaller details, like Chopper's glowing blue eyes, which pierce the souls of his enemies. It's hard to believe that this monstrosity is really Chopper, but it's also his most amazing design of all his point transformations.
4
Luffy's Snake Man Form
Luffy would look truly unstoppable when he assumed his snakeman form against Katakuri
- First appearance: Episode 870
Luffy can take on a few different forms when he activates his Gear 4, but design-wise, his Snake Man transformation is one of the most detailed and stunning in terms of appearance. As Luffy's entire body bolts up in this transformation, his hair also begins to float upwards, while his arms and legs begin to glow bright black and red due to all the Haki bubbling up to the surface.
One Piece: 8 Best Zoan Form Designs, Ranked
Zoan forms in One Piece come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, but these are among the very best from a visual perspective.
This is an epic design that effortlessly conveys how incredibly powerful Luffy truly is, a wild departure from his usual fun and carefree appearance. In stark contrast, this is a shape that can strike fear into the eyes of even the highest-ranking admirals, and it's a testament to how effective it is as a design choice for the series' protagonist.
3
Zoro's Asura Form
A mysterious form that puts Zoro's unparalleled strength on full display
- First appearance: Episode 300
Zoro's Asura form seems to come out of nowhere when he first reveals it during the Annie's Lobby arc, but while it would greatly increase Zoro's strength, it would also give him an altered appearance that provides a nice bit of hypnotic imagery for fans to admire. In this form, Zoro sprouts multiple limbs around his body, allowing him to wield nine swords at once instead of the usual three.
This already makes it a startling design, considering how dangerous it looks, but what makes it all the more captivating is the symbol of Asura, a supernatural being from Hindu mythology, that appears behind him when he first activates it. It's also interesting that Zoro's legs don't multiply while everything above the torso does, resulting in a fascinating design that fans were eager to see return after it was first shown before the time jump.
2
Sanji's Raid Suit
Sanji becomes a kind and handsome superhero after opening the Raid Suit Can
- First appearance: Episode 925
Sanji makes it crystal clear to the crew after leaving Whole Cake Island that he isn't exactly thrilled with the idea of using his Raid Suit, given that it was created by his abusive family. But when Sanji decides to whip it out as a last resort, he takes on a sleek and clean look that manages to retain enough of Sanji's key features, like his swirling eyebrows and blond hair, while making him look like an epic superhero thanks to the long black cape and mask.
Sanji also throws on a couple of shades with this design, and also gets a pair of white gloves, which drip out from head to toe as soon as he opens the Raid can. Although Sanji is already known for his expressive fashion sense, this form takes this to a whole new level, emphasizing not only his kind personality but also his underlying power with how terrifying it looks to his enemies.
1
Luffy's Gear 5 Form
Luffy's Gear 5 Form is a fun and wonderful design full of details
- First appearance: Section 1071
The hotly anticipated Gear 5 form of Luffy certainly did not disappoint when it debuted in 2023 in the anime, not only in terms of its incredible power, but also the design, which changes many of Luffy's colors to resemble a god-like figure, or more specifically, Nika. One of the most striking aspects of the design is his hair, which turns pure white and takes the form of what look like little puffy clouds resting above his head. Speaking of clouds, Luffy also gets a large wind-like ring that surrounds him from behind, adding to the idea that he is some sort of mystical deity who has descended from above to help those in need.
Some other small details that contribute to Luffy's latest appearance are the purple cloth, which provides a nice contrast to the rest of his cotton white color palette, alongside the giant smile, which is even wider than usual. This design would be so amazing to look at that there has been a plethora of fan art featuring it since it first appeared during the intense battle with Kaido.
