Summary
-
Modern ISEKAI heroes range from too careful to misanthropic.
-
Signs that Seiya Ryuuuguin exemplifies anti -heroes through obsession.
-
Not all anti -heroes are dark; Kazuma Satou is a hopping but reliable example.
Some of the earliest portal fantasy stories were about upsetting your old order of things. The old classics may have been about Tapper knights who killed dragons to save princesses, but modern heroes sent back to these days had no time for traditional chivalry. Some of them even bounded on being anti -heroeswhere their good deeds were not necessarily done for the right reason.
Modern iskai is no different. Sure, there are leads that are white knights with modern hacks. But there are others who are everyday people who are thrown out of their depths in their fantasy worlds, reluctant Don Quixote types surrounded by Dim-Lated Sancho Panzas, or figures that are a bad day away from turning to the dark side. These are the best anti-heroes in iseki-anime.
Seiya Ryuuuguin
The disadvantage of the preparations
If it was enough to be too careful to make one a anti -hero, then Seiya Ryuuuguin of Careful hero: The hero is overwhelming, but overly careful would be the best of gang. The goddess Ristarte called him to save the world of Gaabrande from Demon Lord because he had the best statistics. But they came with a catch, because he not only controlled under each stone. He also controls them from all angles.
His obsession with being a combat was enough to run Ristarte Nuts, let alone his party members, who Seiya regularly spoils because he did not share his fine attitude to adventure. He cares about them, but his devotion to be prepared for every result makes him suspended, courty and impotional to them. Basically, by trying to be the best hero, he broke the wheel and flooded to be an anti -hero instead.
Naofumi Iwatani
Bitter and betrayed
If people want a typical, if it is wild, examples of an iskai anti -hero, Naofumi Iwatani from Rising of the Shield Hero would fit the bill. He is bitter, cynical, seems to hate everyone around him and takes a pragmatic attitude to solving problems. For example, after his slave Raphtalia's hometown was destroyed, he bought more slaves to help refund it. That way they could “get” their independence. But he was not always so.
When he was first shown away to RSHThe fantasy world was he was the typical, positive, picky hero. Then stole the salty, the princess of Melromarc and a member of his party, his stuff and framed him for abuse. It made him a figure at best, and hatred in the worst case, so he gave back the favor until he bought Raphtalia and slowly learned to trust others again. Although it is a bit much to call it a path to redemption, as he is still a misanthropic slave owner at the end of the day.
Hajime Nagumo
How a good guy became Lord of Edgelords
As RSHs naofumi, ArifuretS Hajime Nagumo In the past was a normal guy who would go out to help others. It changed when he and his classmates were transported to Tortus, and he was left for death after they gained better forces. Anger, storage and hunger -induced madness mentally changed him while feeding on monsters he killed changed him physically.
He became a stronger, cooler, more ruthless figure who would do something to return to Japan. If something comes in his way, whether it is monsters, civilians, classmates, etc., he will quickly dispose of them without a new thought. The only thing that keeps him from becoming a direct villain is that he likes to take care of children, likes the harem of monster girls he built up, and he is still a dork in his heart.
Kumoko
An Arachnid discovers what it is to be human
Yet it may be worse, as in So I'm a spider, so what? In that series, an incorrect game went through time and space to kill everyone in a regular Japanese classroom. All there were reincarnated in another world such as noblemen, royalty and other high -born people, except Kumokowhich became the weakest type of spider monster in a dungeon full of larger animals.
Trying to survive in its dark depth changed her, reduced her to eat dead bugs and fight (or escape) threats in every corner. With her parallel sense of mind, she became stronger at the expense of her humanity. She would save people from bandits and other threats, but she would write it as part of her quest for skills and titles. It wasn't until she formed an unlikely alliance with Ariel Demon Lord that she would regain some sense of empathy for others.
Lugh Tuatha Dé
When an iskai needs a hitman instead of a hero
In his old life, the pseudonyma 'Allen Smith' was the world's best killer. But if he thought he could retire when he grew up, he mistook hard when his organization turned him and blasted the flight he was on. Still, even in death, it was another job waiting for him, because the goddess in another world needed him to kill his hero to avoid it falling into ruin.
Thus, The world's finest killer is reincarnated in another world as aristocratThe Lugh Tuatha DéSo he can kill the hero as soon as they stop the demon. He helps others and be kind to them, but not by altruism. If he needs to fool or manipulate people, or torture and kill others to achieve his goals, he will. Even after becoming friends with Epona, the prophesent hero, he finds that his pragmatism is being tested.
Cid kagenou
When the main character has the main character syndrome
At least LUDH has talent to back up his words and deeds. Cid kagenou from Eminence in shadow is less happy. His death and rebirth gave him just the chance to live out his dream of being a morally ambivalent “shadow broker” -like character, which runs a secret group that can release the country from the culture in Diablos under the costume of being another NPC.
At least, that's what he tells Alpha, a river girl he cured with knowledge from his old world. He becomes stronger through regular training and manages to make his shadow garden organization a reality. But when his fiction collides with reality, things become difficult. As secluded and pragmatic as he acts, he is not a super strategic manipulator, nor any mob, but a guy who lives his great fantasies. Which can only be enough to save the day.
Ainz ooal dress
Resists the turn to the dark side
Some heroes on this list became anti -heroes due to further influence, such as Hajime and Kumoko's monster eating. But the most famous example of this is Ainz ooal dress from Overlord. He was originally called Momonga, and he was one of the few players who left driving in Dmmorpg Yggdrasil when its servers were about to be turned off.
Instead of being cut off, he was absorbed into the game as his skeletal Lich Avatar, and its virtual world became real. With the name of his old guild, the recently called Ainz must now find a way back to the real world. Assuming that his Lich impulses do not take over, as he is gradually caring less about people outside his Väng Group, and he is just as willing to kill them as well as monsters if they get in his way.
Subaru Natsuki
A diamond in rough
Anti heroes are usually seen as dark, morally gray characters who could easily become the villains of the series if they did not have one or two things that keep them in the light. But Re: zeroS Subaru Natsuki Does not seem to have a bad bone in the body. He is kind to an error, loyal to his friends and can turn the other cheek. Sounds like a typical goody.
But is he heroic? In addition to having the inability to die, he had no special forces or abilities when he was shown to Re: zeroS world. Unless his uncertainty, depression and ordinary promising count. He is easily shaken and makes mistakes, but continues to push for the sake of others. So there is a heroic side for him, but it requires some effort for him to find it.
Kazuma Satou
Bumbling into greatness
Not all anti -heroes are Edgelords, posers or fish out of water. Kazuma Satou of Konosuba succeed in being one by being hopeless. He can be jagged and blunt, lazy, cowardly in battle, a perverse towards women, and according to his best Frememy Aqua has “the mental resilience of tofu”. He would not fight against Devil King if he was not driven to do so by the circumstances.
But when chips are down, he can prove to be surprisingly reliable, come through to protect his friends and win battles by working smarter than harder, even if it means it's sweet to talk to things. Yet he does not lie to them or take advantage of them. He is only financially with the truth. So he's a good guy without being a good guy, so to speak.
Tanya von Degurechaff
It's good to be evil sometimes
In loose terms, an anti-hero is someone who does the right thing for the wrong reason, while an anti-villain is someone who makes a mistake for understandable reasons. Given the show is called The story of Tanya The EvilIt's hard to see how any of these labels fit Tanya von Degurechaff self. Is she not just an evil protagonist who Death noteLight Yagami or Lucy from Elfen lied?
She is a little more complex than that. Reborn as a young girl in an alternative Germany in the First World War, she is a manipulative user and a likely psychopath and thinks that humanity is useless. Yet she follows international law and rejects nihilism by supporting her troops and pushing them to be the best against all odds. She may be evil, but she is more complex than her “evil” tag releases.
