The newly released anime, The Suitor: Beyond Journey's End, has quickly caught the attention of many anime viewers. It tells the story of a party of heroes consisting of the magician Frieren, the hero Himmel, the priest Heiter and the warrior Eisen, who after a decade of fighting finally defeat the demon king and return home before they disband. However, the Frier ages at a much slower rate and must witness each of her companions age and eventually pass away.
The Suitor: Beyond Journey's End – Strongest Characters, Ranked
In The Frieren: Beyond Journey's End's world of magic and creatures of all kinds, these individuals hold the greatest power.
On a journey with her new apprentice, Fern, Frieren visits places she had traveled through with her former companions. She is forced to remember her experiences and reflect on the essence of relationships when the opportunity to say goodbye has passed. For fans looking for anime with similar themes of adventure and reflection, here is a list of anime to watch if you want The Suitor: Beyond Journey's End.
We focus on just shows, so no movies. That said, check it out Maquia: When the promised flower blooms.
Updated January 6, 2026 by Mark Sammut: The Bachelor Season 2 is about to kick off, and it will almost certainly be among the best shows of winter 2026. If you can't wait for the series to return, I recommend checking out the following anime.
Delicious in the dungeon
A brilliant fantasy anime that can rival Frieren in most areas
Airs next door The Suitoropening season, Exquisite in Dungeon was not an instant hit like its contemporaries, but rather a slow-burning success story that gradually turned into one of the best shows of 2024. Both animes are set in wonderful fantasy worlds that seem to take some inspiration from tabletop RPGs, and they revolve around parties that are on a specific mission. While the Friar's group reflects the elf's past, Exquisite in Dungeons heroes delve deeper into a sprawling dungeon, all in hopes of finding the dragon that ate one of their members.
While ultimately quite different, these two series work perfectly as companions that scratch the same itch, albeit in unique ways. Exquisite in Dungeon starts with a relatively light tone, but is overall much darker than The Suitoralthough it maintains an upbeat tone throughout its run. Trigger's animation is also almost flawless.
Mushi-Shi
A rare Iyashikei supernatural anime
Trading fantasy for the supernatural, Mushi-Shi will probably come closest to replicating The Suitors tone. Ginko travels across Japan in search of stories that may hint at the presence of Mushi, supernatural entities that exist beyond humanity but can also affect humans. Mostly an observer, but also willing to get involved if the situation calls for it, Ginko is a surrogate for the audience, acting as their eyes and ears in a world that is both familiar and alien.
Although their settings are not the same, Mushi-Shi and The Suitor are both great iyashikei anime that revolve around characters traveling from area to area. Mushi-Shi is even slower than The Suitorbut it is just as captivating.
Grimgar: Ashes and Illusions
A more grounded Isekai anime that focuses on a party
Grimgar: Ashes and Illusions presents the familiar Isekai trope of another world as a group of strangers find themselves in unknown territory, in a foreign land with nothing but their distinct memories and the distinct emotions that run through every inch of their bodies: fear and survival.
The strangers, no more than teenagers, can only choose to become soldiers in the reserve army and have no other means of support. While all the stronger candidates have left in groups, those left behind must also find a way to survive. With their lives hanging in the balance, the remaining candidates form an unlikely group and must work together to ensure their survival.
Spice and Wolf
A fantasy anime about discovery, love and life
Spice and Wolf presents the story of the wolf god Holo and a traveling merchant, Kraft Lawrence, as their lives collide and snowball into something more than either of them bargained for. The powerful wolf god, Holo, was worshiped in the town of Pasloe for blessing the annual harvest. But as the years pass and the people become more self-sufficient, Holo is reduced to nothing more than a special spectator in the city, more or less a folk tale of what once was.
Holo's days as a bystander end when she proposes to traveling merchant Kraft, who happens to be passing by, to become his business partner if he helps her go to her northern home, Yoitsu. Kraft recognizes her skills and agrees to fulfill her request, and the agreement kickstarts the beginning of their many adventures.
Similar The Suitor, Spice and Wolf pretty much focuses on the quieter moments of an adventure, while shining a spotlight on its main relationship.
Fairies Album
A doctor's introspective journey
Fairies Album follows the life of a powerful spirit healer who is widely known in the spiritual world of Yaogaui. While everyone knows her skill, very few know what she actually looks like. As she travels the world to help those who need her services, she is accompanied by a young monk and a demon in the form of a man.
The series is similar The Suitor in it Freire recounts her adventures on a journey that allows her to relive them at the same time Fairies Album follows the spirit doctor's various adventures in real time, making it an even more exciting experience.
The Ancient Magus Bride
A girl who has been true hell is trying to learn to live
The Ancient Magus Bride presents a moving perspective on the life of the central character, Chise Hatori. Unlike Frieren, who recounts her adventures with her friends and companions throughout a long life, Hatori recounts the trials that count as a lifetime for her.
7 Anime To Watch If You Like The Ancient Magus' Bride
The Ancient Magus' Bride is not the first of its kind, and these anime are the perfect ones to watch if fans want something similar.
The story follows Chise, a 15-year-old Japanese girl who is sold at an auction to a mysterious man because he has no family and is considered a social misfit. Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation
Anime-Planet Rating: 4.2/5
Jobless reincarnation follows the life of a middle-aged shut-in who has spent his entire life being bullied, oppressed and mocked. An act of heroism on his part soon turns into a tragic accident that results in his death; however, the wheel of fate is still in motion, and he is reincarnated into a fantasy world as the child, Rudeus Greyrat of the Greyrats.
Rudeus gets a second chance at life and is determined to make the most of his new life and leave nothing to chance. With all memories of his past life intact, Rudeus embarks on an adventure of magical proportions to overcome the trauma of his past while growing as a magical swordsman.
Although nowhere near as healthy as The Suitor, Mushoku Tensei also follows a protagonist who didn't fully appreciate the time they had in a past life, and they don't strive to get better.
