Best 6 player co-op game

In the modern multiplayer world, there can never be enough players to get together to play a game in online co-op. From massive multiplayer games to more intimate lobbies with just friends, there are many ways to experience gaming today with other people.

While three or four players may be a more common number to play together, there are many games today that will support lobbies of much larger sizes. It can be difficult to choose what type of game is good for everyone to play together, but there are some great options that can include anyone from veteran players to relative newcomers.

We mainly focus on PvE games.

Jackbox Party Pack

Different multiplayer games all in one

The Jackbox Party Pack is a fascinating series of games, all easily played among either a group of friends or an entire chat's worth of Twitch viewers. These games are great fun, and their variety of five games in each pack means players aren't likely to get bored as quickly as they can with some other party games.

Games like Quiplash, Trivia Murder Party and Talking Points have helped Jack box to a big hit with larger groups of players looking for something fun for an evening. This is the perfect answer for a group that has a mix of veteran players and more casual players.

Pico Park

A wonderful chaotic puzzle game for whole groups

Pico Park is one of the most unusual co-op games ever released. This puzzle title supports up to ten players in a single game and allows players to work together as a larger group to try and find a key that will allow them to unlock the door at the end of the stage, allowing them to move on.

Pico Park comes with a large variety of levels and game modes, making it a great party game for larger groups to play. The standard world mode comes with 48 different levels divided into 12 different styles, while players can also play together locally or in battle/endless modes.

Pico Park 2 is as good as the first.

Project Zomboid

Amazing and challenging open world zombie survival

Although there are many survival games and zombie survival games, few allow so many players to come together and work to loot, build and survive. Project Zomboid is specifically for this, and players have enjoyed the isometric open world immensely. Not only this, but also the many different elements of survival within this game, and, of course, the co-op aspect.

Being able to work together with so many friends to try and survive the attack makes for a charming but dangerous time. Players sometimes get to live the simple life, crafting and fishing, and other times they have to grab loot where they can in deadly areas and try to take on hordes of zombies. The mix of simple base building and action-packed moments makes for a great experience together with large groups of friends.

Valheim

Nordic survival is made easier with friends

Valheim can be incredibly difficult to pick up and progress in. This is definitely one of the more gated survival games, set in a procedurally generated world inspired by Norse mythology. As said, Valheim is still exciting, although a lot of work is needed to progress; luckily, the process becomes much easier with friends along for the ride.

There are many great things to do in it Valheim. Fights to be fought and built to be made, but the most glaring thing that stands out to fans is the brutality. Valheim is truly a game that's great alone, but vastly improved with friends along for the ride.

Human Fall Flat

A Floating Dreamscape Party Platform

One of the best party games for a group of players ever seen, Human Fall Flat is a physics platformer that can be played by up to eight people online. It encourages players to work together to try to navigate puzzles and levels, many of which can be solved in a variety of ways.

The fun in Human Fall Flat is the completely ridiculous physics and openness of the levels, allowing players to creatively find their own solutions. Working together in a larger group makes the game even more fun, making this a perfect one-night experience for a party of six.

Barotrauma

Work together to survive or sink to the bottom of an alien sea

Now, here's a co-op game that's not for the faint of heart. Barotrauma tasks your crew with managing a submarine, with each person assigned a role that comes with specialized missions. Depending on the selected mode, you might have a specific goal like finding the Eye of Europe or just be able to explore without any specific goals. Either way, you'll likely have a tough time, as the game requires everyone to pull up, and failure to do so turns that person into an anchor.

Although support for up to 16 players, Barotrauma has a wide range of submarines designed around different party sizes, with the intermediate ones suitable for 6 players. In fact, the game has 6 roles, so this group size is pretty much perfect. If you have fewer players, some people will have to take on multiple roles, which can actually make things easier as playthroughs tend to become more difficult as you expand your crew.

Killing Floor 2

A great retro-style co-op shooter

Another FPS game that is perfect for a group of six players, Killing Floor 2released in 2016. Set in a world overrun by military clones that have spread across Europe after the events of the first game, Killing Floor 2 lets up to six players work together in the campaign against hordes of zombie-like creatures, making it one of the best co-op zombie games on the market.

Although there was some criticism of the plot, the actual gameplay has received much praise, which does Killing Floor 2 another perfect party game for a group of players who want to relax and turn off their brains. Players can work together to try to survive each mission or compete for the most kills and points.

Killing Floor 3 is worth a try too, even if it's rough around the edges in places.

Terraria

Base building and sandbox actions with large groups

Another game that allows a large group of players to enter a single world, Terraria has often been mentioned as having similarities to Minecraft, but in two dimensions. There are many things that do Terraria unique, however, including the intricate crafting system.

This can be an overwhelming game to start with, but with some friends along for the ride, Terraria is much easier to grasp quickly. As of version 1.4, up to 16 players can join a single server, making this a perfect co-op experience with plenty of replayability for six players or more.

Tribes of Middle-earth

Co-Op Saga

Tribes of Middle-earth is somewhat polarizing, but it deserves a mention because it can really strike a chord with certain groups. An action RPG that also focuses on survival and crafting, the game has two modes: Saga and Survival. The latter challenges you to survive as long as possible, which is actually not that difficult; meanwhile, the former revolves around beating a boss before an endless night falls that makes it impossible to leave your base. Both modes allow standalone runs, and they are quite different from each other.

Although the game loop can become repetitive, Tribes of Middle-earth works much better in co-op than solo. The game has 10 classes, so everyone can choose one that suits their play style. Although billed as an action RPG, Tribes of Middle-earth facilitates other playstyles as well, so everyone in the party doesn't have to focus on hacking and slashing their way through a campaign. Want to focus on base building? Then you can do it.

Minecraft

The ultimate co-op game for any adventure

One of the best games of all time, Minecrafthas proven its popularity many times over the past decade by maintaining player numbers almost unheard of for a long time. Minecraft offers players many ways to play, and a group of friends can gather on an online server or Java Sphere to do everything from creative builds to trying to defeat the Ender Dragon together.

The wide range of features available in Minecraft means that players can potentially continue to engage together in new projects indefinitely. With such an active modding community and so many great multiplayer servers to try, Minecraft is the ultimate party game for larger groups of six to ten or even smaller groups of friends.
