Battlegrounds PS5 version is worse than Xbox version

PUBG: Battlegrounds will run at a higher resolution on Xbox Series X than on PlayStation 5. As Battle Royale approaches a decade old, it's moving away from last-gen consoles, and that change may come as a surprise to Sony fans. While PUBG on PlayStation 5 will certainly work better than the PS4 version, it will miss out on the new Xbox version.

On November 13, 2025, PUBG: Battlegrounds will lose support for PS4 and Xbox One, but revamped console versions will arrive on current-gen systems on the same day. PUBG Studios hopes that the change will help keep the game performance according to modern standards and will free up resources for further optimizations. While all that may sound good, not everyone will experience the same benefits from the transition.

PUBG: Battlegrounds PS5 resolution is lower than Xbox Series X

An announcement from PUBG Studios detailed the upcoming console versions of the current gen, confirming that PUBG: Battlegrounds will reach 60fps at 1440p on the PS5, compared to 60fps at 2160p on the Xbox Series X. Although the Xbox Series X is slightly more powerful than the PS5, thanks to marginally higher CPU clock speeds and more compute units, it's not often that gamers see such a dramatic difference in the Xbox's favor. Sony fans will need the more expensive PS5 Pro to match the Series X's performance PUBGalthough the vanilla PS5 will still outperform the Series S, which can only hit 60fps at 1080p.

Lower resolution isn't the only advantage Xbox has over PlayStation in the new PUBG end up. Current players will be able to keep their earned achievements when moving from Xbox One to Series X or S, but trophies will not transfer between PS4 and PS5. It's not the first time PlayStation fans have encountered the problem, which Cyberpunk 2077 PS4 trophies didn't carry over to PS5, and the same thing happened with Skyrim: Anniversary Edition before then. According to PUBG Studios, the transfer would be too technically complicated to implement due to all the data involved.

PlayStation Plus subscribers receive an exclusive item, the Pixel Art Parachute from PUBGs first PlayStation launch, which is not available to Xbox Game Pass users. Regardless, it's an interesting time for the game as it makes improvements for more modern hardware. It will be interesting to see what new updates and improvements come with the transition to current generation consoles, so PUBG players should keep their eyes open in late 2025 and beyond.
