The second chapter of Battlefield 6 Season 2, Nightfall, will also be released on March 17. Alongside the aforementioned Hagental Base map, there will be nightfall features in certain game modes, which free-to-play players will be able to try out until March 24th. These nightfall mechanics should fundamentally change how certain matches play. It will be interesting to see how these mechanics work in practice and if they are well received by players.

The clear hope here is that this Battlefield 6 free trial is enough to attract more players for a long time. By releasing it alongside a new batch of content, Battlefield Studios is giving itself the best chance to succeed in this endeavor, especially if the update proves popular with existing players. The first launch of Battlefield 6 Season 2 wasn't the turning point for the game that the developer wanted it to be, but there's no reason it can't regain some of that early momentum.

In that context, it is clear to see why the upcoming significant content reductions will be very important to Battlefield 6. The live services environment is becoming increasingly competitive, and it is becoming more difficult for games to thrive among the many options available to players. Even those in established series like Battlefield and Call of Duty has struggled for sustained success in the last release cycle, an indictment of how competitive it is right now.
