In a stunning twist, Battlefield 6, the first Battlefield title since 2021's much maligned Battlefield 2042, has been cracked by pirates. It's a massive development in piracy's ongoing battle against DRM software, and another important entry in what has been a pretty busy year for pirated games.
First shared on Reddit's r/CrackWatch community, a sub dedicated to tracking the status of cracked video games, Battlefield 6 was made available to the seedy underworld of Rune. It is worth noting that what has been made available is not the complete package (single-player and multiplayer), as only the solo campaign has been made available to pirates.
None of the Battlefield 6 RedSec negative reviews are actually about RedSec
RedSec isn't bashed because it's bad; it's because it's trendy to hate battle royales.
Equally worth noting is that Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 are also required, so there are a few hoops potential hackers have to jump through. While Battlefield 6 doesn't have Denuvo anti-piracy measures, it does have EA's Javelin anti-cheat system and apparently some proprietary DRM protections that have prevented the game from being cracked since its October release.
With Battlefield 6 cracked, the first-person shooter joins a slew of Call of Duty titles to be made available by pirates in the past six months alone, representing some pretty significant developments in making titles that were thought impossible to crack, well, possible. If there was ever an unfortunate element to all of this, other than piracy being frowned upon, it's that Battlefield 6's campaign just isn't very good.
BF6's campaign wishes it was even half as good as Bad Company 2's
Ahead of Battlefield 6's launch, it was said that the game's campaign would take cues from Dead Space and A24's Civil War film in terms of themes and pacing. However, just before launch, fans noticed that the NPCs in the game were very poorly designed. It was simply a precursor to what was to come.
Immediately, fans noted that the single-player campaign required a constant internet connection despite being a solo experience. It's not a deal-breaker but also really a mighty annoyance and hit against game preservation. After playing through the game, fans were able to determine that what was shown in the trailers apparently did not make it to the final game, leading many to believe that things were cut at the last minute.
If all that wasn't enough of a headache, Battlefield 6 even offered to uninstall the campaign for players to save space. On paper, it's a nice gesture in a storage-starved world, but it instantly became a meme and added firepower to something that was already struggling to gain traction. Again, massive piracy related development but also for a game mode that is particularly memorable.
