Currently there are two ways to play with Dark Urge in Baldur's Gate 3; you can either redeem him or succumb to his bloodlust. If you choose to play as Tav or one of the original characters, you will only encounter Durge's corpse in the Temple of Bhaal. Wouldn't it be interesting if you could have him for company?
Sure, nights at camp would be a little uneasy with a compulsive killer in your company, but he'd be a good addition if you're one of those who thrives on chaos. Thankfully, it looks like you'll soon be able to add him to your party, thanks to a fan. The Recruit the Dark Urge mod is currently in development, but you can get a sneak peek at Act One right now.
Dark Urge joins the party
Recruit the Dark Urge is being done by HyperspaceTowel, the same developer behind the massive cut content recovery mod for Baldur's Gate 3. It looks like they've used their file extraction skills and applied them in a way that allows Dark Urge to be recruited if you're playing as Tav or one of the other companions.
The sneak peek shows the act a confrontation scene after Durge brutalizes Alfira at the camp. Normally you would only see this scene if you were playing as Dark Urge, but this mod gives you an outside perspective as Tav, allowing you to talk to Durge as if he were any other companion in the game.
HyperspaceTowel mentioned that the planned features include making Durge recruitable and allowing him to level up like the others and add companions for his big scenes. There will also be more voiceover lines “from the cast's existing/removed lines.”
Explaining how more dialogue will be added, the modder said: “It's not enough for a full companion like the ones we have in the vanilla game, but I'll do my best with what I have: Durge is voiced by CC Voice 5, so that's where I'm getting lines from. There are also hundreds of lines that were released in Early Access that I've been putting through.”
