Baldur's Gate 3: Best Bows

Building a ranged character in Baldur's Gate 3 may seem easy on the surface by just picking up the ranged weapon with the highest enchantment bonus, but with the hundreds of options and unique effects found in every corner of the map, there's always a weapon that can make you reset your stats just to accommodate it.

While not all ranged weapons are equally useful in all classes and skills, all can be used by at least one member of your party to ensure they get the most damage potential. However, there is a lot to consider when choosing your next favorite ranged weapon.

Updated January 31, 2026 by Ben Jessey: Baldur's Gate 3 is still a very popular game played by many people. So we thought we'd revisit our list of the best ranged weapons in that game and add a few more gems.

Spell Thief

Spells and bows don't generally go together in Baldur's Gate 3, but they do when you use Spellthief. This is because when you land a critical hit with this bow, you automatically reset a spell slot.

Work smarter, not harder.

You can only get one per card rest, meaning you can't take advantage of it. However, it's still a nice effect to have on your bow if you like to use both spells and traditional ranged weapons. It also makes it unique compared to most other guns out there. You can buy it from Arron at The Hollow.

Titanium string bow

Titanstring Bow on the back of Lae'Zel in Baldur's Gate 3.

Titanstring Bow is a longbow with a unique bonus. That bonus is a boost to your damage based on your character's strength. So, if you're someone who has put a lot of points into strength, then you're going to be taking significant damage with this thing.

Of course, on the other hand, if you give it to a weakling, there isn't much use with this weapon. Therefore, how good this weapon really is depends on how you use it. But if you want to use it at all, you have to buy it from Brem in the Zhentarim Cellar or Lann Tarv in the Moonrise Towers.

Giantbreaker

Giantbreaker crossbow on the back of the main character in Baldur's Gate 3.

When you call a weapon “Giantbreaker”, you place certain expectations on it. After all, with that title you should realistically be able to take out a lot of giants with the thing. Whether you can do that is debatable.

What cannot be debated, however, is that this is an exceptional weapon. The main thing it does is potentially cause Reeling, which can be very useful in battle. Along with that, it's just a generally effective crossbow that you can buy from Brem in the Zhentarim basement.

Joltshooter

Joltshooter on the back of the main character in Baldur's Gate 3.

If you just look at the in-game icon for Joltshooter, you'll know roughly what to expect. This is a weapon infused with lightning. To be more specific, it generates lighting charges when you use it, meaning you get a boost to your attack rolls, and with multiple charges you can deal some significant lighting damage.

What makes it even better is that you can get it early in the game because you get it for rescuing Counselor Florrick from the burning building in act one.

Evil card arc

The Vicious Shortbow on the back of Karlach in Baldur's Gate 3.

When you have the Vicious Shortbow equipped, each critical hit you land increases the damage you do with your bow by seven. What's interesting is that the critical hit doesn't need to be achieved with Vicious Shortbow. So you can hit someone with a sword and increase the power of your bow in the process. With some well thought out attacks you can really make the most of this effect.

Unfortunately, it's not the easiest weapon to get your hands on as you have to go through the Homicide Tribunal and become an unholy assassin before you get the Echo of Abazigal bow.

Crossbow Of incomprehensible Power

The Crossbow of Arcane Force on the back of Minsc in Baldur's Gate 3.

Crossbow bolts and arrows can hurt a lot. But what is even more deadly is arcane energy. It just so happens that Crossbow of Arcane Force can be infused with Arcane Energy. As a result, you deal extra Force damage with each attack, making them more effective in general.

Unfortunately, it is not a crossbow that is readily available. After all, it is only worn by a Githyanki named Raider G'r'ath, who can be found at the Githyanki Creche.

Hellfire hand crossbow brush

Astarion holding the Hellfire Hand Armbow in Baldur's Gate 3.

This +2 hand crossbow is ideal for rogues as its main ability is to cause burning on targets while they are hidden or invincible, dealing additional fire damage each turn, and rogues can sneak attack each turn, making the burning effect last as long as you keep hitting your targets.

Crossbow also gives you a free casting of Scorching Ray, which also uses its Hellstalker ability to cause Burning, and since it casts at third level automatically, you get four rays instead of three. To get the Hellfire Hand Crossbow, you must defeat Yurgir inside the Gauntlet of Shar, which is a tough fight.

Gontr Mael

Astarion with Gontr Mael in Baldur's Gate 3.

Gontr Mael is a legendary longbow with a +3 enchantment and the ability to gain a free casting of Guiding Bolt on every weapon attack made with it, tripling its base damage and granting advantage on every next attack against it.

It also comes with an improved version of the Haste spell, which prevents the dull effect after it wears off, but can only be cast on the wielder. You can get Gontr Mael by defeating the Steel Watch Titan inside the Steel Watch Foundry.

Blightbringer

Astarion equipped with Blightbringer in Baldur's Gate 3.

Blightbringer is a unique bow in that it increases damage potential against goblins and dwarves, which is quite situational but will always give you specific targets in humanoid battles. Where this weapon shines is that critical hits made with it will cast Slow on enemies, slowing movement speed, lowering armor class, removing reactions, and more.

In Baldur's Gate 3, you can also stack effects that lower the critical range of weapon attacks, making this slow effect happen more often. You can buy the Blightbringer at Danthelon's Dancing Ax shop in Wyrm's Crossing.

Never miss

Ne'er Misser on the back of Wyll in Baldur's Gate 3.

As the name suggests, Never miss is a +1 hand crossbow that comes with a free third-level casting of Magic Missile, which deals 5d4 power damage and automatically hits the target regardless of AC. On top of that, normal attacks made with it deal an additional 1d6 force damage, which is a useful damage type as it can easily break objects and walls.

The Ne'er Misser is likely a weapon that most players will never find, as it's all about finding a way to avoid killing a Zhentarim slave when you first find her. You can buy or loot Ne'er Misser from Roah Moonglow in Moonrise Towers if she survives the troll camp in the first act.
