Astro Bot gets a Winter Wonderland update with new bots

Although the speedrunning DLC ​​levels have all been added, Astro Bot fans had a sneaking suspicion that there was still more to come. That suspicion has now been confirmed as PlayStation and Team Asobi have revealed that Astro Bot's next DLC will be a brand new Christmas-themed level, and you won't have to wait long to play it.

The reveal was made via a PlayStation blog post on Wednesday where the developers behind the potential Game of the Year winner called the new level a thank you for all the love and appreciation players have shown their game since its launch in September. A sneak peek at the new level, called Winter Wonder, shows Astro running through baubles to further demonstrate the game's particle physics, and a bit away from a large gold gift that he tries to open just before you get to see what's inside.

Why Astro Bot should win Game of the Year

Astro Bot isn't the kind of game to win Game of the Year, but in 2024 there's no better choice.

I guess what's waiting inside is a shiny new bot as the blog post confirms that Winter Wonder will bring even more new characters to save and collect in the game. Team Asobi stopped short of noting if the new bots will be more generic looking like Astro, or if they will be based on characters from other series and games.

Since there are still some notable characters missing from the bots you need to save in Astro Bot, I'm guessing Winter Wonder will have at least a few more cameo appearances. Eagle-eyed Astro players quickly picked up on Ubisoft being thanked in the game's credits, but there have still been no Ubisoft bots to save. Rayman and Assassin's Creed are both mentioned by name, so we might get them as early Christmas presents in tomorrow's update.

If you like the look of the Winter Wonder but have been dragging your feet when it comes to completing the Astro Bot, you better get to work tonight. While the Winter Wonder level will be free DLC for anyone who owns the game, the new level will not be unlocked until you complete the main campaign.

Team Asobi also notes that this is not a challenging speedrun level like the other Astro Bot DLC that has come before it. It is a new level in line with most others in the game intended for Astro Bot players of all ages and skill levels. The level will be unlocked for anyone who has completed the campaign at 9:00 PM EST on December 12, 2024.
