The character change system is a missed opportunity in Castle Raids.
Assassin's Creed Shadows was a commercial and critical hit for the besieged Ubisoft, which proved that the series still has a broad appealing, something people began to question despite the volatile success for Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
But now that the dust has lowered, players are starting to criticize the individual aspects of shadows that they think are awkward-this extends from the non-linear story to the concept of Canon mode to the season mechanic.
Shadows have a dynamic seasonal system where seasons change after about two and a half hours of play. At the end of a season, warnings, places and local fractions will all be updated. However, some measures change manually seasons, such as fast travel and change characters.
The change of seasons
It is the latter mechanic that has frustrated players, such as Willowsmithsbff and DL4android, who created separate Reddit threads on the subject. In shadows you can switch between Naoe and Yasuke in all neutral areas. However, doing so is moving forward the season, refreshing enemies in Japan's different castles.
This can quickly become a frustrating job for players. For example, say that you go into a castle like Yasuke and clear out every enemy, but one of the castle's collectibles is in a difficult area that requires you to play as Naoe. You must then leave the castle and switch to Naoe. But since changing characters continues the season, all enemies have respected, and you have to clear them a second time as Naoe.
“This drives me nuts,” writes Visett in a comment. “I like to use NAOE, to move quickly to disable the alarms and mark Daisho. Then go back to the point of view (if there is one) to change and it is frustrating when there is a seasonal change.”
Damhow says the character breaker is a “missed opportunity” because Naoe and Yasuke should be able to “tag team” castle, rather than the unnecessarily supporting system in the game.
To refill it, there is no reason for time to proceed when you change characters because Naoe and Yasuke generally travel together. There is no reason for Naoe or Yasuke to take a whole season to reach their equivalent during a castle attack.
