Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced Cutting 1 Iconic Feature is a logical progression after AC Shadows

Assassin's Creed: Black Flag resynced is one of the worst kept secrets in the gaming industry at the moment. Until Ubisoft makes an official announcement, however, any talk of the long-awaited remake should be met with a healthy dose of skepticism. Assassin's Creed: Black Flag resynced might be one of the potential 2026 releases I'm most looking forward to. Yes, I'm up for a lot of new games too. Resident Evil: Requiem, Saros, Marvel's Wolverine, Control: Resonantand GTA 6 is at the top of my list, though Black flag is my favorite Assassin's Creed game. I am not alone in this thought. Every fan has a different opinion about their favorite, but many see Black flag as a series highlight.

Rumors of one Black flag remake has been swirling around the internet for a long time now, but last year was the moment it felt more real than ever. A series of leaks – and even hints from Edward Kenway's voice actor – attracted a lot of attention. Back in September, fans even got one of the biggest leaks yet in a video from Jeuxvideo. The outlet claimed that all modern scenes from Black flag would be scrapped Black flag resynced. This has been a really fragmented piece of information. Honestly, I was pretty freaked out when I heard about it myself. After thinking about it, I've realized that it's not that surprising of a choice.

Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced Saying goodbye to modern scenes only makes sense after shadows

Spoilers for Assassin's Creed 3.

When Assassin's Creed Shadows released last year, it marked a big change for the franchise. Instead of intertwining the story-focused plot with a modern story, Ubisoft made the decision to have all future modern stories in the Animus Hub. The modern plot threads have been a big part of Assassin's Creed brand, and I personally really love today's moment. However, it's hard to deny that the franchise has struggled to maintain a consistent story ever since they killed off Desmond in Assassin's Creed 3.

Killing Desmond was a huge mistake

Don't get me wrong. Introducing Layla Hassan i Assassin's Creed: Origins was a solid replacement, but the hole left by Desmond's death was large. He was the original heart of modern history. His story didn't lead to the satisfying climax of the day that I assumed would happen, and even worse, Ubisoft didn't really have a solid plan for where to go with this part of the story after his death. Back in 2024, ex-Ubisoft developer Marc-Alexis Coté even admitted, “Ending Desmond's arc was a difficult decision, and afterwards the modern storyline struggled to find its footing.” The Animus Hub offers the opportunity to rework the modern story to make it more cohesive. Keeping the two separate may not be a good idea forever, but the Animus Hub will hopefully allow more focus to be placed on these specific plot points until everything feels stronger.

Cutting the modern scenes in black flag presents some challenges

The Black flag resynced leaks don't really make it clear if the modern parts will be in the Animus Hub or not. Hopefully they are. If they are not, some rewriting would be required. The Black flags modern scenes involving the observatory are directly linked to its discovery in Edward Kenway's story, so leaving them out would definitely be controversial. Rewriting parts of history has some major pros and cons. There is also the possibility that only certain parts of the modern story will be cut instead of everything. But for the sake of argument, let's assume that 100% of these scenes are cut. The remake would need something to replace such a large chunk of cut content, and the leaks from Jeuxvideo have revealed a silver lining that could Black flag resynced even more interesting.

Ending Desmond's arc was a difficult decision, and afterwards the modern storyline struggled to find its footing.

According to Leaks, Black Flag Resynced Scraping the Modern Storyline will make way for cut content

The potential exclusion of modern stories is troubling, but there is a bright side to this as well. If true, it is expected that there will be more Mary Read ins Black flag resynced. Mary Read was supposed to play a larger role in Black flag in general, but her story was cut due to pacing issues. If Ubisoft has rewritten certain parts of the story to make up for no modern moments, it could ultimately help the pacing issues that kept Mary Read's larger story out of the original game. Read was an interesting character that many wanted to see more of, while walking around a fake game studio via today's segment wasn't something everyone liked. As such, swapping out the modern segments for Read's story can be a huge boon, and it has the added benefit of allowing new players to jump right in without being thrown into a modern story they have no understanding of.

Other changes rumored to be coming to Black Flag are resyncing

  • The game reportedly has the same map, but more activities.

  • Changes to loot and equipment.

  • Reworks gameplay and RPG systems to be more in line with the latest Assassin's Creed game.

An Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced Announcement feels imminent

Ubisoft has remained tight-lipped about the remake, but there is plenty of evidence pointing to a March release date. There is an unnamed game that will be released before the end of Ubisoft's fiscal year, which is March 31st. In addition, a domain name is registered for Black flag resynced has been discovered. Although the company has not said anything officially, all signs seem to point to one Black flag resynced announcement very soon.

Although the signs look promising, it is important to remember to keep expectations in check. I really want to Black flag resynced to come out this year, and I'm far from the only one. However, there's no way to know for sure until Ubisoft confirms it for good. When an announcement is finally made, it will be fascinating to see if the leaks about cut modern content are true or not. If true, it will definitely ignite controversy. Assassin's Creeds modern story is a compelling story, but it may ultimately be best for developers to focus on it separately outside of the main games to create a more consistent narrative. Either way, jumping back into Edward Kenway's life will be a welcome return to one of the show's best entries.
