As reported by MP1st, it will allegedly have new systems related to combat and wildlife, although what exactly that means is unclear at this time. The team reportedly hopes that these changes, whatever they may be, will make the original an “outstanding game to be reborn as the next generation triple-A game”.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remake is Gaming's latest waste of time

Ubisoft is rumored to be remaking Black Flag as a sequel to Skull & Bones, but it's a sad step backwards.

The LinkedIn profile, combined with Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot stating that “players may be excited about some remakes,” including “older Assassin's Creed games,” all but confirm that a Black Flag remake is in the works. But details are incredibly scarce as it hasn't been officially announced yet. In all likelihood, we won't hear more until Shadows releases, which was only delayed for the second time.

When can we expect The Black Flag Remake?

Insider Tom Henderson claimed late last year that the Black Flag remake was “well in development” and targeting a November 2025 release date, but he also said Shadow's initial delay had shaken up Ubisoft's roadmap.

Henderson also claimed that it was developed on the upgraded Anvil engine.

Considering Shadows was delayed again just six days ago, it's unclear how far the Black Flag remake may have been pushed back. 2026 seems a safe bet now, but that's entirely speculative – we'll just have to wait and see.

Shadows is now slated to launch on March 20th, so we might find out more about the alleged Black Flag remake soon after. However, with expansions already in the works, the spotlight will likely remain on Yasuke and Naoe for a while longer.
