ARC Raiders players want a broken item to be nerfed

Hundreds ARC Raiders fans have taken to social media to express their frustration, claiming that Trigger 'Nades, one of the game's quick-use items, break PvP, and calling on developer Embark Studios to nerf them. Several ARC Raiders weapons have already been geeked out since launch, but this is one of the first times fans have called for a quick-use item to get the same treatment.

Balancing weapons in a game that ARC Raiderswhere the line between PvP and PvE is blurred, is a real challenge. Embark Studios has tackled this by introducing a wide range of semi-specialized weapons, some of which are designed to take down ARC Raiders' deadly machines and others better suited to deal with hostile raiders. In other words, the developer has largely left the choice up to the players, letting them decide whether to run a more PvE-focused loadout or a PvP-centric one. That said, since launch, some items and weapons have upset this balance, prompting fans to call for changes, as seen with Trigger 'Nades.

Fans believe that there is another ARC Raiders skin that should be added now that the tutorial skin has finally made its way into the game.

Fans think ARC Raiders trigger 'Nades is overpowered

Trigger 'Nades has long been a part of ARC Raidersarsenal, but they have recently increased in popularity in PvP, to the point where some fans believe they break the game's balance. These grenades work similarly to the C4 in many games, where players throw them at a target and detonate them remotely. Which makes them feel “overpowered” for many ARC Raiders players is their long throw distance, near-instant detonation, and the fact that two well-placed charges are often enough to defeat an attacker.

How Trigger 'Nades Break PvP

  • Incredibly high damage

  • Wide power range

  • Immediate explosion

  • Easy to get drawing

  • Easy to manufacture

Why would I ever spend materials on the more expensive grenades?

In addition to their high damage and wide AoE, fans believe that Trigger 'Nades have become so common in PvP in large part because of how affordable they are to craft. Discussing the matter on Reddit, one fan wrote: “About Trigger 'Nades [require] only 2 raw explosives, why would I ever spend materials on the more expensive grenades that do less damage in a smaller radius with a delay that allows people to easily dodge them?” For those who don't know, players can unlock the Trigger 'Nade blueprint early in ARC Raiders by completing a relatively simple mission that involves taking down a Hornet.

“It's more broken than the pre-nerf venator,” say fans

One of the first ARC Raiders weapon to earn the “overwhelmed” label was the Venator 4. After a few upgrades, the gun received a massive rate of fire increase that temporarily broke PvP before being nerfed in the 1.3.0 patch. Now, some fans are joking that the Trigger 'Nade exploit in PvP is even more broken than the pre-nerf Venator 4, and are calling on Embark Studios to address it before it further disrupts the game's balance.

  • Limiting the damage radius

  • Increases the explosion delay

  • Nerfing the throw distance

  • Make them more difficult to manufacture

Hundreds ARC Raiders players have shared ideas about how Embark Studios could drop Trigger 'Nades. The most popular suggestion is to reduce their damage and radius of effect. Other ideas include limiting how far they can be thrown or adding a delay between release and detonation. Some fans also point to their easy crafting as part of the problem, although a counterargument is that increasing the crafting cost would mostly affect casual players, while those who farm ARC Raiders resources could still exploit them.

How likely is it that Embark will trigger the 'Nades

Based on the developer's track record, it seems likely that Trigger 'Nades could be nerfed soon. Embark Studios has already tweaked the stats for two ARC Raiders weapons, Venator 4 and Hullcracker, which were previously considered overpowered. This suggests that the studio may also address damage, radius, and crafting issues with Trigger 'Nades. That said, the studio has changed its patch schedule and informed fans that updates will resume after a hiatus when the team returns in January.
