The first one ARC Raiders The expedition has finally launched and players find that their unlocked Workshops have disappeared. In many live service games —The Escape from Tarkov, Once Humanor ARC Raiders, for example —periodic wipes are par for the course. They reset all players to level one, remove most of their items, and basically start all over. Different games do it a little differently, but ultimately it's a balancing mechanic that ensures everyone always has something to do. Otherwise, the more advanced players would unlock everything, explore everything, and then sit and twiddle their thumbs or wander off to another game.
One of the main disadvantages of periodic wipes is that it tends to penalize the casual players who may not have time to make much progress before the rug is pulled out from under them. It can be frustrating to reset over and over, only to see the beginning of the game multiple times. ARC Raiders decided to mix things up by introducing Expeditions, a periodic deletion that players can choose to use. In other words, those who don't feel ready to restore don't have to. To get raiders to participate, developer Embark Studios added incentives such as permanently increased Stash space, extra skill points and cosmetics, as well as temporary buffs for new players. Additionally, the developer stated that some unlocked items, such as Workshop Stations, would be retained after an expedition.
ARC Raiders: Wipe Explained (Expedition Guide)
Every 60 days, ARC Raiders will go through a server wide cleanup, and here's how to save your progress for your next Raider using the Expeditions.
ARC Raiders Players Workshop Stations have disappeared
December 22, the first ARC Raiders The expedition finally took off after a short delay. It's supposed to be an exciting time for raiders, but instead many are angered to find that their crafting stations, which they thought would remain available, have to be rebuilt and rescheduled. Only the starting workbench is available at the first login after an expedition. In the days leading up to the first expedition, Embark changed the list, which appeared in the game, of what to keep and what to restore for those who participated. “Unlocked Workshop Stations” no longer appear on the “This Will Be Kept” list as it used to.
Many players point out that “Workshop” was always on the “This Will Be Reset” list and attribute the current conundrum to simple miscommunications. Be that as it may, ARC Raiders players who signed up for the expedition find that none of their crafting stations, except for the starting workbench, are unlocked when they log in. They all need to be rebuilt and leveled up again. At least “Unlocked Workshop Stations” really used to be under the “Kept” list and were later removed, and many players expected, because of the list, that their workshop stations would remain unlocked and immediately available for use after the expedition.
It's important to note that way back in October, when Embark explained the expedition project in detail, the developer listed the workshop as part of what would be lost. “Players will lose everything intrinsic to their character's progression. Levels, skills, items/inventories, workshop, crafting capabilities, etc.” This was reiterated in subsequent blog posts, with the most recent, dated December 12, clarifying that “potential workshop upgrades will be available as soon as you reset,” implying that their levels would at least not survive the drought. However, this did not yield any ARC Raiders players the impression that repair stations would need to be fully unlocked again.
Regardless of why “Unlocked Workshop Stations” was removed with little fanfare from the list of items to be kept, whether it was simple miscommunication, many players are upset to find themselves having to unlock their workstations again. For many raiders, being able to keep them was part of what helped them decide that maybe joining the expedition wasn't such a big loss. And upgrade the workbenches in ARC Raiders requires certain items, such as the infamous Rusted Gear, which are difficult and time-consuming to find.
There will always be hiccups in a new game when an untested mechanic is rolled out for the first time. This debut ARC Raiders The expedition appears to have been completed with minimal issues, with the potential miscommunication about repair stations being the only player complaint to surface so far. That said, with or without unlocked workbenches, some players are still unsure whether to participate ARC Raiders Expedition is even worth it, considering the number of items lost, as well as the extreme cost in parts to build the Expedition Caravan and the 5 million coins required to unlock all five available skill points.
