AMD Chief Reports 'majority of players still play at 1080p'

Higher resolutions and more frame can usually catch PC players, but AMDFrank Azor claims that most people still play in 1080p. The endless debate about the games' visual performance and headlines about advanced hardware shows lots of demand for expensive, next generation GPUs, but AMD's head of game solutions and marketing reports that the lower end is where most of the market is. The latest budget components from AMD can be more meaningful in the light of that disclosure.

Earlier this month, the AMD RX 9060 XT, a more budget -friendly alternative to animals such as RX 9070 or Nvidias RTX 5090. It may not seem that much according to today's standards, but according to Azor, all PC players need.

Azor dropped the insight when he responded to a user who called out the 9060's 8 GB Vram on Twitter. He explained that the most played games all over the world are e-sports titles, which are usually less graphically demanding. With “the majority of players” playing in 1080p, Azor says that most of the market does not need more than 8 GB of memory, although that number seems small compared to what other components can. This does not mean that AMD just swings to the only GB range, since AMD has also released the RX 9070 range, all of which have 16 GB of Vram.

AMD's marketing and game manager is not the first person to point out how 1080p is still as relevant as ever, especially for e-sports fans. Many 1080p screens offer high update frequencies and low response times while remaining available, making them ideal for competition games. While an advanced 4K or 8K monitor can offer more beautiful screens, a 1080p resolution is still worth today, even advantageous in certain situations.

Azor also mentioned how the company would not make any 8 GB units if there was no demand for them. While AMD has recently dismissed workers after seeing reducing sales in its game segment, it is still an important player in the gaming damper for games. It is safe to say that AMD's continuation to produce more accessible, lower-specific GPUs probably in response to real marketing, then. It can also be a way to keep prices low to separate the company from Nvidia's advanced alternatives, even if Azor did not mention that side of the equation.
