This post contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen.
The Jujutsu Kaisen anime returned with its third season a few weeks ago, and as expected, it has turned out to be another phenomenal project by MAPPA. By now, it's abundantly clear that the studio can do no wrong and everything it touches turns to gold.
Jujutsu Kaisen: Why Season 3 Will Have the Biggest Fights Yet
How does Jujutsu Kaisen aim to be bigger than the Shibuya incident? Just a huge battle royale that takes place across the country, of course.
Jujutsu Kaisen fans are really grateful to MAPPA for maintaining the quality, especially when adapting the Culling Game arc. In the first three episodes, the Culling Game has been mentioned several times by various characters, but what is it really about?

Kenjaku plans to use killing games to evolve humans

Kenjaku uses the Culling Game to further his cause
The Culling Game may seem like a competition on the surface, but the reality is dramatically different. For centuries, Kenjaku has been trying to come up with ideas to advance humanity, but he's either hit a dead end or been stopped by someone else. According to Tengen, Kenjaku was stopped twice by the person holding the Six Eyes. This led to Kenjaku killing the next user of the Six Eyes along with the Star Plasma Vessel. Unfortunately for him, the new vessel and new user were born at the time of Tengen's assimilation.
After failing again, Kenjaku had to change his approach, which is why he decided to seal the Six Eyes user, as the ability cannot be possessed by two people at the same time. Kenjaku was also lucky when Toji Fushiguro killed the Star Plasma Vessel, breaking the chains of fate that bound her to Tengen and Gojo Satoru. Afterwards, Kenjaku began searching for the Prison Realm to seal away Gojo Satoru, and he finally succeeded in the Shibuya Incident arc. With no one to oppose, the ancient wizard was free to do as he pleased.
The killing game must be stopped at all costs
As previously mentioned, Kenjaku wishes to forcibly evolve people in Japan, and for that he needs Tengen. He wants to pit wizards and non-wizards against each other, so that their cursed energy can be optimized and they reach a new level. The Culling Game is the perfect stage for his plan, and it's safe to say that the wizard can actually get what he wants. If that were to happen, thousands and maybe even millions of people could die. To stop Kenjaku, Itadori Yuji and his friends must participate in a Culling Game and beat the ancient wizard at his own game.
The rules of the game for killing in Jujutsu Kaisen
The Culling Game has eight rules that must be followed by everyone competing in the competition.
-
Anyone who has awakened their cursed technology must declare their participation within 19 days at the colony of their choice.
-
Any individual who violates the first rule will lose their cursed technology. Tengen confirmed that it would cause the person to die. Players who have no cursed tech will not die from this rule.
-
Non-players entering a colony become players. It will be seen as a sign of their willingness to participate. However, people who are already inside a cordon will have the opportunity to leave once.
-
The only way to earn points is by killing other players.
-
Each player is assigned players depending on their skills by the game master. To reduce confusion, each wizard's life is worth 5 points, while a non-wizard's life is valued at 1 point. Cursed Spirits are also worth 5 points.
-
Players who score 100 points may ask the game master to add a new rule, provided it does not impede the Culling Game. Also, the point value of a player does not count towards their total score. Additionally, the player cannot ask any previous ruler to be subtracted.
-
The Game Master must add a new rule, as long as it does not adversely affect the Culling Game.
-
If a player's score does not change in 19 days, their cursed technology will be removed, meaning they will die.
Since the Culling Game is not in full flow, there have been no new rules, but that will change in the upcoming episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen. The heroes have split into several teams, with Itadori and Yuta already on their way to participate in the Culling Game and save Gojo Satoru. They know that time is short, and they must hurry or risk seeing the death of many people.
