All year round PlayStation Plus Subscribers received significant value from their memberships in 2025, with the combined retail value of free games offered by Sony exceeding $1,500. While that number represents a slight decrease from 2024, the total number of free titles on PS Plus has actually increased over the past 12 months, albeit marginally.
Monthly free games are far from the only advantage of PS Plus, but they are among its highlights, not least because they are available at all levels of the service: Essential, Extra and Premium. Sony usually averages three new freebies – which, once claimed, remain playable for as long as one subscribes – per month, but the company deviated from this pattern several times over the course of 2025.

PS Plus gave away over $1,500 worth of games in 2025
PS Plus offered 39 monthly free games in 2025, one more than the year before, averaging 3.25 titles per month. That number was largely driven by two months: June, when PS Plus subscribers could claim Destiny 2pp The final form expansion along with three other free titles, and December, which featured five free titles, all of which are available for download until early January. Based on full retail prices, the total value of the 2025 lineup reached $1,536.61, representing a decrease of approximately 4% compared to 2024.

A notable trend observed in this year's data is a sharp decline in PS4 games. By 2024, nearly 87% of all monthly free titles claimed by PS Plus Essential, Extra and Premium subscribers were playable on Sony's latest generation console. This year, that percentage dropped to 51.28%. The trend is expected to continue, with Sony previously confirming plans to further deprioritize PS4 titles within PS Plus benefits from January 2026.

With PS Plus Essential priced between $79.99 and $119.88 per year (based on one- and 12-month plans), the more than $1,530 worth of free titles offered in 2025 represent a significant cost advantage. Actual value will vary based on player preference, but from a pure cost savings perspective, the Essential tier delivered solid returns over the course of this year.
More PS Plus news to come before the end of the year
The latest batch of PS Plus freebies that went live in early December 2025 are still available to pick up until January 5th. Its outstanding title is Neon whitea speedrunning-centric shooter that is one of the highest-rated games released in 2022. The January 2026 free games are expected to be announced on December 31, in line with Sony's usual pattern of revealing them on the last Wednesday of the month.
