After 16 years, a legendary manga will officially end

One of the most important things a manga needs to succeed is consistency. Over the years, many manga have been released that initially seemed great, but their quality began to decline over time. This led to fans losing interest and forcing the manga to end prematurely. In fact, Shueisha is notorious for axing manga if it doesn't meet standards.

However, Akatsuki no Yona never had to face such problems. Readers who picked up the manga never felt like stopping, which is why it has grown into one of the most popular titles in the shoujo demographic.

  • Akatsuki no Yona has sold more than 15 million copies

  • Akarsuki no Yona will end in three chapters

Akatsuki no Yona has been in serialization since 2009, and since then it has become the best shoujo manga. It has received a lot of criticism and will continue to grow over time. Unfortunately, like all good things, Akatsuki no Yona must also come to an end. Fans always knew that the day would come when they would have to part ways with the manga, but they never expected it to happen so quickly.

In a recent report, it was confirmed that Akatsuki no Yona will end in three chapters. This is actually huge news for fans, as there isn't much time left before the series ends. Readers who have followed the series for years are sure to be devastated, as no one wants their favorite series to ever end. However, there are a couple of positives. First, it increases the likelihood of an anime adaptation being announced. At the time of writing, only one season of Akatsuki no Yona had been released. It premiered in 2014 and was produced by Studio Pierrot. A total of 24 episodes were released and all received a positive reception from the audience.

A series as good as Akatsuki no Yona deserves a second season, but so far the studio has not shared a statement. However, there is a chance that the conclusion of the manga would put more pressure on the studio and the people involved in the decision to announce a new season.

The other positive is that new readers will be able to read the entire manga without having to wait for a new chapter. All manga and even anime fans have gone through the phase where waiting for seven days felt like an eternity. When the manga finally ends, readers will be able to finish the story without any interruptions.

Long Manga has been threatened

Akatsuki no Yona manga end

As previously mentioned, Akatsuki no Yona has been part of Hana to Yume magazine since 2009, making it one of the longest running manga series. When the manga ends, it means the industry will lose another great. But there's no doubt that a new manga will take its place, or at least try to replicate its success. Unfortunately, the manga industry has become much more ruthless, and publishers don't give too much breathing space to new titles. In fact, many titles have been discontinued just a couple of months after their release. Due to the more rigid policy, only high-quality manga survives the cut.

Shueisha's Shonen Jump faces the challenge of attracting new viewers, especially after Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia ended in 2024. Both manga have sold over 100 million, making them part of an elusive list. Any new manga will find it difficult to even come close to these numbers. However, Shueisha still has time to find another gold mine, as Eiichiro Oda's One Piece is still ongoing. The manga has sold more than 500 million copies worldwide, making it the best-selling manga in history. Given the current status, it seems that One Piece will continue for at least four or five more years. Some fans think Ichi the Witch and Kagurabachi are the next big hit, but their numbers aren't as good.

Akatsuki no Yona is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
