Abandoned video game characters that are actually amazing

Everyone has different views on video game characters. It would be sad if we all thought exactly the same thing, right? But there are some characters that just don't reason with the majority of players, and they end up hated, or at least disliked, by the whole fan base.

Sometimes it is deserved, and sometimes it is definitely not. I have seen enough hatred for these innocent characters online that it is time for me to jump in and defend them. They do not deserve to be so generally disliked, and here is why.

Ashley Graham

Resident Evil 4

Look, I know to hear “Leoooon! Help me Leon!” Gets grid really fast. But put yourself in Ashley's shoes. Really put yourself in them. You have been kidnapped, and now you are surrounded by zombies. Let's be real, if any of us were in that situation, we would act more like Ashley than Leon.

Protecting Ashley and making sure she is not killed in some parts of Re4 is a pain, yes, but that is not her fault. Have you ever thought that you just have to be good, and then she wouldn't have to scream for help all the time?

Sharla

Xenoblade Chronicles

Sharla does not get the best character development in Xenoblade Chronicles, but one of the most convincing things about her is her friendship with Melia. Imagine my surprise when, after playing the game, I found out that not only hate people, but most of that hatred is because of her interaction with Melia.

If you do not know the game, Melia has a crush on the main character, Shulk. Shulk is in love with his childhood friend, Viora, who all consider dead. Sharla encourages Melia to get closer to Shulk, because that's what friends do. And … everyone hates her because of it. Sharla doesn't know what you know right now in the story, guys! She is just trying to be a good friend of Melia, to cry out loud.

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

If you hate Navi, you probably played Ocarina of Time as a child and continued to do things wrong, or you just want to repeat things you see on the internet. Either way, it's just stupid to lead your hatred to Navi. She is trying to help you!

I can admit to hear “Hello! Listen!” Getting tired, but didn't you feel at least a little connection to this little story that is by your side when no one else is? No? Then you are beyond help, I'm afraid.

Bawl

Final Fantasy 8

While Cloud is pretty much loved as a final fantasy head, Squall is the opposite of that, even though it is very similar to cloud personality. He has his fans, for sure, but many people who played 8 did not agree with him for some reason. The reasons I have seen quoted most often are because he is moody and insecure.

… would you not be moody if the principal in your school just raised and left, and made you be responsible for all child soldiers in the presentation he abandoned? Come on now, Squall just acts realistically. In addition, he grows up a lot and actually becomes a strong leader in the end.

Donald Duck

Oh, Donald hasn't healed you? That is why you are so hateful to him? Did you forget that you can change how often he uses healing magic and objects in the menu? You did? Yes, I thought so.

The only reason I allow Donald Hate is for how fast he turned his back on Sora when he dropped Keyblade in KH1, but if it's just about how he is not a good healer, I'm sorry, but that's a problem.

Tom Nook

Tom Nook is not A loan shark. In fact, he is very generous with how he borrows watches to you. You don't even have to pay him back, really. He never chases you up and he never puts interest on top of what you are already guilty. Boy, I wish it was true in real life.

Many fans also paint him as a rich billionaire who does nothing to help their society, but they could not be more wrong. Did you know that according to New Leaf, Tom Nook donates the majority of his profits to a local orphanage? How much more care can you get than that?

If Chikorita has a hundred fans I'm one of them. If Chikorita has ten fans I'm one of them. If Chikorita has a fan, it's a fan me. If Chikorita has no fans, I'm dead.

My biggest grip on Chikorita is that it is hated for all reasons Charmander is loved. Charmander sucks towards Kantos Gym? Oh, it just adds more challenge! Chikorita is weak towards Johno's gym? It sucks like a Pokémon and no one should ever use it! Hypocrites, many of you.

Karol

Tales of Vesperia

For some reason, children get a lot of hatred in play to be whining and annoying. Karol from Tales of Vesperia falls into this trap, but he really doesn't do much to deserve that reputation.

Sure, there are “cooler” party members, and he has a lot to grow to do, but it can be expected. He's young! Personally, I think his friendship with Yuri is very sweet, because Karol sees him as a big brother figure.
