A Switch game will be delisted on June 1st

Nintendo Switch owners only have a couple of months left to buy Horizon Chase Turboas the racing game will be removed from the eShop on June 1st. Horizon Chase Turbo pays tribute to the arcade racing games of the past, with 16-bit graphics and a soundtrack composed by Barry Leitch, who previously worked on genre classics such as Rush and Top Gear. While the game offers content for solo players, it also offers local split-screen multiplayer, as well as online leaderboards. The game has been available on the Nintendo Switch eShop since 2018, and was followed by a sequel that was released on the system in 2023.

Horizon Chase Turbo has been mostly well regarded since launch; The game currently has a Top Critic average of 79 on OpenCritic. Given the huge number of games on the Nintendo Switch eShop, it's possible Horizon Chase Turbo may have flown under the radar for some owners of the system, but those who have played it have largely had positive things to say. On a system that doesn't have one Gran Turismo or Forza Horizonit's a little harder to find good racing games on Switch that aren't Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Horizon Chase Turbo has obviously filled the void for Switch owners who want something a little different, but it won't be available on the system for much longer.

A new Nintendo Switch 2 console model is coming, but there's a catch

Less than a year after its launch, a new version of the Nintendo Switch 2 is coming, but not everyone will be able to get their hands on it.

Why Horizon Chase Turbo is leaving the Nintendo Switch

Horizon Chase Turbo will be removed from the Nintendo Switch eShop and other digital platforms on June 1st. The news was confirmed in a post on the game's official X account, which noted that Horizon Chase 2 will remain available. The original version of Horizon hunting also delisted on other platforms, although the game never made it to the Nintendo Switch. An exact reason for the delisting of these games has not been provided by Aquiris Game Studio, but the developer was acquired by Epic Games in 2023. News of the delisting followed an announcement that Epic Games was cutting 1,000 jobs at the company, leading to speculation by fans that there may be a connection. No one from the team has confirmed it as of this writing.

In the meantime, anyone interested can still buy Horizon Chase Turbo for $19.99. Aquiris Game Studio has confirmed that those who own Horizon Chase Turbo will still be able to download it on the eShop after June 1st, but new purchases will not be possible. That's usually the case when Switch games are removed, but the confirmation should come as a relief to current owners of the game. Following Horizon Chase Turbos release, the game was supported with additional content, including the Senna Forever and Summer Vibes DLC packs. Presumably, all extra content will also be removed from the eShop on June 1st, so owners who haven't gotten their hands on that content may want to do so while there's still time. It also seems unlikely that the game's leaderboards will be left intact, as online features tend to be removed from games on the Nintendo Switch and other platforms after they are removed.

Game delistings are an unfortunate reality in the current video game industry. When these things happen, it's often because the license rights for that particular game have expired. That seems to be the reason Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection will be delisted on Nintendo Switch and other platforms on March 31st. However, that doesn't seem to be the case with Horizon Chase Turbo. It's not really clear why this is happening, except that there may simply be no members of the studio available to work on any bugs or issues that arise after the layoffs at Epic Games. Horizon Chase Turbos delisting will surely come as a disappointment to fans, but thankfully there was advance notice, as that is not always the case.
