A little Grand Theft Auto 6 swap would go a long way

The massive expectation around Grand Theft Auto 6 only grows as fans hope to see a new trailer for the project before the end of the year, with the decade-plus wait for the title to finally hit its home stretch. Despite the excitement already surrounding the game, many of its finer details are still completely unknown, with the now-iconic reveal trailer for the title only shedding light on its Vice City setting as well as one of its major protagonists, Lucia.

So many of the expectations around Grand Theft Auto 6 are directly tied to its depiction of Vice City and its surrounding areas, with this pivotal location finally getting a new lease of life after 22 years. Although it seems likely that this depiction will be bigger and more detailed than what fans saw of Los Santos in 2013 Grand Theft Auto 5there is a relatively obscure element of exploration which GTA 6 can take to the next level. GTA 5 was rather lacking in its crowd density of NPCs throughout its bustling urban areas, and GTA 6 is in prime position to expand on this to breathe a serious amount of life into Vice City.

An ex-Rockstar Games developer explains why the studio's deafening silence surrounding GTA 6's highly anticipated Trailer 2 is likely intentional.

Crowd Density will hopefully be a game changer for Grand Theft Auto 6

While Grand Theft Auto 5 blew fans away in 2013, with its legacy since then making the game the most profitable single medium of all time, it's clear through a modern lens that the game is now held back by the hardware it was built around. Of course, Grand Theft Auto 6 will enjoy all the benefits of modern hardware, likely leading to a much larger map and graphical fidelity, and an increase in NPCs on screen at any given time should also be a logical extension of this.

GTA 6 will take players back to Vice City and the surrounding state of Leonida, with huge amounts of influence from Miami and much of Florida, and this should be properly reflected in the game. As such a densely populated real place and tourist destination, Miami's vibrant life can only really be reflected in GTA 6's Vice City through massive crowds the franchise has never seen before.

Reveal trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 is hopefully a good indication that this is a real possibility in the game, with the video going out of its way to showcase crowded beach areas and bustling nightlife to give fans their first real look at this bigger and better version of Vice City. It also seems that the main characters in GTA 6 will be much more grounded compared to GTA 5putting even more pressure on Vice City and its denizens to give the upcoming game the edgy spark the IP is known for, and crazier crowds of partygoers and others could be the perfect way to provide this.

A focus on NPC density can create unique identities between GTA 6's online and single player modes

Theories already suggest that GTA 6 can feature constant random events around Vice City that are alerted to the player through in-game social media live feeds, and larger crowds around these crazy events can be a great way to realistically guide players into the action to see everything the city has to offer. Of course, this would create an even greater contrast between the urban areas in GTA 6 and the rural wilderness that surrounds them, which only broadens the range of gaming experiences players will have available to them.

These tightly packed crowds could be toned down too GTA 6s version of Grand Theft Auto Online to increase performance and enable greater focus on things such as GTA RP, but closer NPC presence seems to be a must for the game's single player experience. With such high hopes as already exist about this new era for Grand Theft AutoRockstar could raise the bar to a whole new level with a concerted focus on making their locations feel even more alive through a greater density of NPCs.
