Hollow Knight fans agree to pretend that Silksong will be released on April 2nd

Summary

  • Hollow Knight fans collectively agree to act like Silksong has been released on April 2, 2025.

  • While it's not featured during today's Nintendo Direct, many will just pretend it has.

  • This comes after a wild theory about a cookie recipe was quickly debunked.

It's been almost six years since Team Cherry revealed that Hollow Knight would be getting a sequel, and somehow it doesn't feel like we're any closer to it in 2025 than we were in 2019. Even die-hard Hollow Knight fans seem to be giving up the hope as many of them have collectively agreed to just pretend that Silksong will appear during Nintendo's Switch 2 Direct on April 2nd, 2025, even if it isn't.

Nintendo revealed the Switch 2 last week and confirmed that it will hold a Direct for the new console on April 2nd. While some Hollow Knight hopefuls immediately jumped to the conclusion that this is when Silksong will be revealed again and given a release date, realists who have been through this too many times have already resigned themselves to more heartache, agreeing to just pretend it's happening up during the presentation.

If it's not fun waiting for silksong, you're doing it wrong

People are getting mad at Silksong, but half the fun is waiting.

Reddit user u/Skibidiohiorizzlrr has led the charge on the r/Silksong subreddit, urging his fellow Hollow Knight-heads to pretend the game has been released when April 2nd rolls around and the Switch 2's first Direct disappoints them all again. The responses indicate that quite a few people are on board with the idea, while others have leaned even more towards the gimmick and pretend that Silksong has already been here for a while.

Hollow Knight fans have now resigned themselves to pretending the game has a release date

Something to look forward to on April 2nd, whether it's rediscovered or not

Not everyone is on board with just pretending Silksong exists with one of the wilder theories yet that news will come and spin shortly after the Switch 2 reveal. Someone reverse image searched for a photo of a cake that a Silksong developer used as his profile picture and pointed to the recipe the photo was taken from shared on April 2, 2024. For some, that was enough to prove that Silksong will be a part of upcoming Switch 2 Direct.

There's really no telling when exactly we might see Silksong pop up next. While a Nintendo Direct might be the right platform to rediscover the long-awaited sequel, it also has ties to Xbox. Now, I don't want to get anyone's hopes up, but there is an Xbox Developer Direct on Thursday. The game might be re-discovered there, although for now I'd stick to pretending it's already been revealed and released.

My advice is to try to forget about it completely, and then when it pops up again it will be a big surprise and everyone will go wild. Between pretending it's been and gone and reverse image-seeking cake pictures, I think we might be way beyond that at this point.
