The best sandbox games
The sandbox genre covers dozens of different games. Here's our list of the best titles you can enjoy on console and PC.
Once you've found and read the lore stone that provides the recipe for the Stormchaser, a very useful tool for navigating the air in Aloft, you'll be able to pay a small price to specifically search for a handful of rare landmarks on the map, ranging from unhealthy ecosystems to knowledge stones.
Although Aloft is a massive open-world sandbox survival game, it is currently still in early access. If anything changes during development, we'll keep updating our guides!
How to use Stormchaser
The sky in Aloft is absolutely huge, and while there's a lot of fun to be had in gradually discovering new sectors of your tabletop map by sailing around the sky and seeing what's out there, if you're looking for something specific and need a way to find it quickly, consider building and using Stormchaser, a machine i The navigation tab of the Crafting menu on your home island that can directs you to important islands.
Are you missing a crafting recipe or two that you're desperately trying to find so you can finish a lavish build or finally craft that machine you've been missing to process all your resources? Sail to the nearest stone of knowledge you might have missed exploring (they might be a bit hidden despite the glowing rock and red ribbon – we definitely missed a few our first time!). Likewise, if you need new equipment for your home island, you can choose to look for one lost anchor instead.
If you are thinking of working with healing ecosystems instead of expanding your recipe book, you can also choose to search for either corrupt islands where you must fight your way to eradicating corruption nodes before you can deal with the health of the planet, or choose to search for the nearest unhealthy ecosystem if you want to get your hands dirty, get to work healing them!
Unhealthy ecosystems are also indicated on your tabular map – when an island appears in yellow on your map, either the ecosystem there is unhealthy or you haven't visited it long enough to attest that it is. The Unhealthy Ecosystem option on Stormchaser is best used early on while you're still exploring the skies and haven't yet reached those islands to mark them.
Once you find the recipe for the Stormchaser, you can then build it and place it on your home island for easy access. Placing Stormchaser costs 20 stones, ten windstone crystals and five coals.
After building Stormchaser you can offer resources in exchange for guidance by interacting with the machine. By default, you always need one purified water, one charcoal and five windstone shards. You need a fourth ingredient to search for these things as well, which we've listed in the table below.

How about that time in The Sims where you designed an entire pool just to catch all the Sims who wouldn't come to your party? Just me?
