Classic Call of Duty titles appear on the Microsoft Store
As spotted by CharlieIntel on Twitter, Call of Duty, Call of Duty 2and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare were all added to the Microsoft Store for PC on December 9. The addition of these classic titles came without prior announcement from Microsoft or Activision, leading to speculation that the two studios are preparing to release these classics Call of Duty titles on Xbox Game Pass. While some fans remain cautiously optimistic about the addition of the aforementioned titles, others have pointed out that many older Call of Duty titles have some pretty serious security issues that would probably need to be fixed before coming to Game Pass.
Classic Call of Duty titles coming to Xbox Game Pass have topped many fans' wish lists ever since Microsoft's acquisition of Activision-Blizzard crossed the line in October 2023, but over a year later, there still appears to be no official word from either studio that there is any intention to bring the popular shooters to Xbox's lucrative service. However, Activision has slowly been bringing more and more of its other IP addresses into the service, such as The Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Spyro Reignited Trilogyand Diablo 4. Alongside call of duty, there are still plenty of other Activision titles that fans want to see added to Game Pass, including Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series.
Many fans speculate that Activision may be reluctant to include the elderly Call of Duty titles to Game Pass because it would discourage people from playing the series' latest entry. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has reportedly been a huge success for both Activision and Microsoft, setting a new record for Day One players and Game Pass subscribers, according to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, who described the shooter as “the biggest Call of Duty ever let go.”
