Best Roguelike Games for Beginners
While it can be difficult for a beginner to dive into, these games serve as a great starting point for newcomers to the roguelike genre.
Praetor Draven is relatively low level, but if you're new to Path of Exile, he can be a little challenging to take on. This will include where to find this boss, as well as some tips to help you defeat him. You can defeat him either before or after Asinia; the order of defeat does not matter.
Where to find Draven
The drives are in Mausoleum of the Praetor, which can be entered from de Eviga's cemetery. When you reach this area, make sure to talk to Lachlann, who will give you the quest Sorrow Among Stones. This assignment you with find and defeat both Draven and Asinia.
Once you enter the mausoleum, you must search around until you find Draven's boss arena. As with other bosses in the game, there will be one checkpoint directly outside the area. Once you have entered the area, Draven's spirit will fly in and break the center hatch.
How to prepare for the Draven
Fighting Draven isn't the hardest task, though it's still good to be prepared. At this point in the game, you should only get magic (blue) equipment for each slot. If you are missing a piece of equipment, make sure to either buy some or defeat enemies to loot it.
We didn't have a belt for this fight, but that's okay. Total, we found the fight against Draven easier than the fight against Asinia. If you've already defeated Asinia at this point, you should be able to take on the Praetor by yourself without a problem.
If you have any unused passive skill points, don't forget to invest them! You get a point every time you level up; this is an early game boss, so you probably won't have the most passives, but make sure to use all the points you are rewarded with.
What moves does Draven use?
As the fight against Draven approaches, let's watch the attacks that he uses.
|
Attack |
Description |
Notes |
|---|---|---|
|
Melee sword attacks |
Draven will swing his sword and deal damage. |
If you keep your distance, these are very easy to avoid. |
|
Fanning projectiles |
The drive will send out projectiles in a fan, similar to Asinia. |
This is another easy attack to avoid, especially if you just run away. |
|
Help from Asia |
Draven will summon Asinia to summon AoE circles on the ground. |
These AoEs will appear in rapid succession. When they happen, just run away; do not attempt to attack during this phase. Asinia makes this attack during her own battle after shouting “Rite of the Fourth Moon”. |
|
Melee weapon Slam |
Draven will slam down his weapon, causing a line of effect, as well as a wave of damage to both sides. |
Overall, you want to avoid this main line. When the waves fan out from it, run and dodge to avoid taking more damage. |
How to defeat Draven
The drive doesn't seem to have as many attacks as Asinia, but they can be heavy. The best strategy here is to just keep your distance to avoid melee attacks and attack with different skills. The drive is coming follow you when you move, so stationary AoEs may not be effective, but you can make him go through them to take damage.
If you take on Draven first (of the two bosses for this part of the mission), this is it good practice for getting a handle on Asinia's AoEs and projectiles. If you've already defeated her, much of the same strategy applies. Draven has no catch attack, so you don't have to worry about getting stuck.
If you happen to die during this fight, don't worry! You will do it revive at the checkpoint right next to the arena entrance, so you can immediately jump back in. Use the previous experience as a lesson on how to succeed in beating him.
After Draven is defeated, don't forget to pick up his key and go through the portal back to the graveyard.
